About the product

Gaptin 300 Mg 30 Capsules

Description:

Gaptin 300 mg 30 capsules is a prescription oral medicine containing gabapentin, an anticonvulsant (anti-epileptic) and neuropathic pain modulator. It is commonly used as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures and for the management of various types of neuropathic pain, such as diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia. Gaptin 300 mg is formulated in hard gelatin capsules for systemic action, helping to stabilize abnormal electrical activity in the brain and modulate pain signals in the nervous system.

Indications:

  • Adjunctive treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and adolescents as directed by a physician.
  • Management of neuropathic pain, including diabetic peripheral neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain following shingles), as prescribed by a doctor.
  • May be used for other types of chronic neuropathic pain (such as radiculopathy, nerve compression pain) according to physician judgment.
  • Helps reduce symptoms such as burning pain, tingling, shooting pain, electric shock-like sensations, and heightened sensitivity to touch associated with neuropathic pain.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Gabapentin – 300 mg per capsule.
  • Excipients (capsule fillers, stabilizers, capsule shell components) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert for full details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Gaptin 300 mg capsules are for oral use only and should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the capsules.
  • Can be taken with or without food; taking with food may help reduce stomach discomfort in some patients.
  • Typical adult dosing for epilepsy (partial seizures):
    - Initial dose: 300 mg once daily on day 1.
    - Increase by 300 mg/day over the next 2 days (e.g., 300 mg twice daily on day 2, then 300 mg three times daily on day 3) to reach 900 mg/day in 3 divided doses.
    - Maintenance dose: usually 900–1800 mg/day in 3 divided doses, as directed by the physician.
    - Maximum dose: up to 3600 mg/day (3.6 g/day) in divided doses, only under strict medical supervision.
  • Typical dosing for neuropathic pain (adults):
    - Often started at 300 mg once daily, then gradually increased based on response and tolerability.
    - Dose is titrated by the physician to achieve adequate pain control with minimal side effects, commonly in the range of 900–1800 mg/day in divided doses.
  • Adolescents and children above 12 years (for epilepsy):
    - Initial dose: approximately 10 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses.
    - Dose is gradually increased according to clinical response and tolerability, as determined by the treating physician.
  • Always follow the exact dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor; do not change the dose or stop the medication abruptly without medical advice, as this may increase the risk of seizures or rebound pain.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps control partial seizures by stabilizing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
  • Reduces neuropathic pain intensity and frequency, improving comfort in conditions such as diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia.
  • Improves sleep quality in many patients with chronic nerve pain by decreasing night-time pain and discomfort.
  • Supports better daily functioning and quality of life by reducing pain-related limitations and seizure-related disruptions.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Use only under medical supervision. Gaptin (gabapentin) is a prescription medicine and should not be used without a doctor’s evaluation and follow-up.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to gabapentin or any of the capsule components.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney (renal) impairment; dose adjustment is often required. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney disease.
  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • May increase the risk of mood changes, depression, or suicidal thoughts in some patients. Seek immediate medical help if you experience unusual mood changes, suicidal ideation, or behavioral changes.
  • Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance drowsiness and dizziness; limit or avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Gabapentin should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
  • If breastfeeding, consult your doctor, as gabapentin is excreted in breast milk; the doctor will weigh the benefits and potential risks.
  • Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including other anti-epileptics, sedatives, opioids, and over-the-counter products, to avoid interactions.
  • Do not stop gabapentin suddenly, especially if you are taking it for seizures; the dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
