Glaptivia plus 50/500mg 30 Tap 6223003577773

Description:

Glaptivia Plus 50/500mg is a prescription oral antidiabetic medicine used as part of a comprehensive diabetes care plan to help control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Each film-coated tablet combines two well-established antidiabetic agents: sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) and metformin (a biguanide). Together, they work synergistically to improve blood sugar control throughout the day, including fasting and post-meal (postprandial) glucose levels, when used along with a proper diet and regular exercise. This product belongs to the Diabetes Care and Health & Wellness medicine segment and is intended for use only under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • For patients insufficiently controlled on metformin alone.
  • For patients already receiving sitagliptin and metformin as separate tablets and who may benefit from switching to a fixed-dose combination.
  • Helps reduce elevated fasting blood glucose and postprandial (after meals) blood glucose.
  • May be used in combination with other antidiabetic agents (e.g., sulfonylureas, insulin) when prescribed by a physician.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Sitagliptin – 50 mg per film-coated tablet (dpp-4 inhibitor)
  • Metformin hydrochloride – 500 mg per film-coated tablet (biguanide)
  • Other excipients: film-coating agents, fillers, binders, and stabilizers (exact excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by a physician experienced in the management of type 2 diabetes.
  • Typical adult dose: 1 tablet of Glaptivia Plus 50/500mg taken twice daily with meals, or as directed by your doctor. The exact dose and frequency may vary based on individual blood sugar control and prior therapy.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
  • Take the medicine with food to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin (such as nausea or stomach upset).
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose, and when indicated HbA1c, kidney function, and other relevant parameters is recommended during treatment.
  • Do not stop taking Glaptivia Plus without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as blood sugar may rise again.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Improves overall glycemic control by combining two complementary mechanisms of action (sitagliptin + metformin).
  • Helps the pancreas release more insulin in response to meals by enhancing incretin hormone activity (sitagliptin effect).
  • Reduces hepatic (liver) glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity (metformin effect).
  • Provides effective blood sugar control throughout the day, including after meals, when used with diet and exercise.
  • May lower blood sugar more than metformin alone in appropriate patients, as shown with similar sitagliptin/metformin combinations.
  • Low intrinsic risk of hypoglycemia when used without insulin or sulfonylureas, as sitagliptin acts in a glucose-dependent manner.
  • Metformin is generally weight-neutral and may help avoid weight gain often associated with some other antidiabetic therapies.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease, or in those requiring dialysis (due to metformin-associated risk of lactic acidosis).
  • Contraindicated in patients with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma.
  • Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, severe infection, or conditions associated with hypoxia.
  • Risk of lactic acidosis: a rare but serious metabolic complication associated with metformin accumulation. Symptoms may include malaise, muscle pain, respiratory distress, increasing drowsiness, and non-specific abdominal distress. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • Pancreatitis: sitagliptin has been associated with cases of acute pancreatitis. Discontinue and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain (with or without vomiting).
  • Hypoglycemia risk increases when used in combination with insulin or insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas); dose adjustment of these agents may be required.
  • Inform your doctor before any radiologic studies involving iodinated contrast agents, major surgery, or procedures that may affect kidney function; temporary discontinuation of metformin-containing products may be required.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Alternative treatments may be preferred during pregnancy.
  • Use with caution in elderly patients; kidney function should be assessed regularly.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol intake, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis with metformin.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without appropriate medical supervision; it is a prescription medicine for confirmed type 2 diabetes.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects (usually mild and transient): nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, indigestion, and metallic taste (mainly due to metformin), headache, and mild upper respiratory symptoms.
  • Less common side effects: dizziness, fatigue, constipation, flatulence, mild skin reactions such as rash or itching.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): signs of lactic acidosis (rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, unusual sleepiness, abdominal pain), signs of pancreatitis (severe and persistent abdominal pain, often radiating to the back, with or without vomiting), severe allergic reactions or angioedema (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), and severe skin reactions.
  • If you experience unexplained changes in blood sugar control, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), dark urine, or persistent gastrointestinal symptoms, contact your doctor promptly.
