Glybofen 5/1000mg 30 RAMEDA

Description:

Glybofen 5/1000mg 30 RAMEDA is an oral antidiabetic prescription medicine used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Each film‑coated tablet combines glibenclamide (glyburide), a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas, with metformin, a biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production. This fixed‑dose combination helps achieve better blood glucose control when diet, exercise, and metformin or sulfonylurea alone are insufficient. It is part of comprehensive diabetes care and should be used under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non‑insulin‑dependent diabetes mellitus) in adults, especially when blood glucose is not adequately controlled with metformin or sulfonylurea monotherapy plus lifestyle measures.
  • Improvement of glycemic control (fasting and postprandial blood glucose, HbA1c) in patients requiring combination therapy.
  • May help reduce diabetes‑related symptoms associated with poor control such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and blurred vision, as part of an overall treatment plan.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Glibenclamide (Glyburide) – 5 mg per film‑coated tablet.
  • Metformin hydrochloride – 1000 mg per film‑coated tablet.
  • Other excipients (tablet core and coating ingredients) are present but specific excipient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Glybofen 5/1000mg is for oral use only and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the film‑coated tablets.
  • It is generally recommended to take the tablets with meals to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects from metformin and to minimize hypoglycemia risk from glibenclamide. Follow your doctor’s exact instructions regarding timing (usually with breakfast and/or main meals).
  • Typical dosing: The dose is individualized based on blood glucose response, previous therapy, and tolerance. The usual starting dose and maximum daily dose must be determined by a physician. Do not adjust your dose without medical advice.
  • If switching from separate glibenclamide and metformin tablets, your doctor will select the closest equivalent dose of Glybofen 5/1000mg.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • Use in adults only; not recommended for children or adolescents unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.
  • Always use in combination with appropriate diet, regular physical activity, and routine blood glucose monitoring as advised by your healthcare provider.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides dual mechanism of action by combining glibenclamide and metformin to improve overall glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.
  • Helps lower fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, contributing to better HbA1c outcomes when used regularly as prescribed.
  • Metformin component reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances peripheral glucose uptake, and may improve lipid profile in type 2 diabetics.
  • Glibenclamide component stimulates pancreatic beta cells to release insulin, improving insulin availability in patients with residual beta‑cell function.
  • Fixed‑dose combination simplifies treatment regimen compared with taking separate tablets, which may support adherence to therapy.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glibenclamide, metformin, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre‑coma or coma.
  • Contraindicated in severe renal impairment or significant renal dysfunction, due to increased risk of metformin‑associated lactic acidosis.
  • Use with caution in hepatic impairment, elderly patients, malnourished or debilitated patients, and those with adrenal or pituitary insufficiency, due to higher risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.
  • Risk of hypoglycemia is increased with glibenclamide, especially with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, or overdose. Patients should recognize symptoms of low blood sugar (sweating, tremor, palpitations, hunger, confusion).
  • Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious medical emergency. Risk is higher in renal impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, respiratory failure, or excessive alcohol use.
  • Temporarily discontinue metformin‑containing products before and after iodinated contrast imaging procedures or major surgery, as advised by your doctor.
  • Drug interactions: The hypoglycemic effect of glibenclamide may be enhanced by certain medicines such as anticoagulants, androgens, chloramphenicol, clofibrate, fenfluramine, fluconazole, gemfibrozil, some histamine H2 antagonists, magnesium salts, and others. Always inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Insulin may be preferred during pregnancy; your doctor will decide the most appropriate therapy.
  • Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, alcoholism, dehydration, severe infection, or conditions associated with hypoxia.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision. This medicine must be used only on a doctor’s prescription.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects (usually related to metformin), especially at the start of therapy: nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and metallic taste. These often improve as treatment continues and when taken with meals.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) due to glibenclamide: symptoms include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, headache, hunger, palpitations, irritability, confusion, or, in severe cases, loss of consciousness or seizures. Seek immediate medical attention if severe hypoglycemia occurs.
  • Possible skin reactions such as rash, itching, or urticaria in sensitive individuals.
  • Rare but serious: lactic acidosis (symptoms may include muscle pain, abdominal pain, severe weakness, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, slow or irregular heartbeat). This is a medical emergency; stop the medicine and seek urgent medical care if suspected.
  • Long‑term metformin use may be associated with decreased vitamin B12 absorption in some patients; your doctor may monitor levels if needed.
  • If you experience any unusual or severe side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Storage Instructions:

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
