Hi-Glitazone 15Mg Tab
Description:
Hi-Glitazone 15 mg tab is an oral anti-diabetic medicine containing pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione (TZD) insulin sensitizer, manufactured by Hi-Pharm. It is used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. By enhancing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, Hi-Glitazone 15 mg tab helps lower blood glucose and HbA1c levels, and supports better long-term glycaemic control when combined with proper diet and exercise, and sometimes with other anti-diabetic medications as prescribed by a physician.
Indications:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non–insulin-dependent diabetes) in adults.
- Improvement of glycaemic control in patients insufficiently controlled by diet and exercise alone.
- May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral anti-diabetic agents (such as metformin, sulfonylureas) or insulin, as directed by the treating physician.
- Helps reduce elevated fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels and HbA1c.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Pioglitazone – 15 mg per tablet.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Dosage must always be individualized and determined by the treating physician based on blood glucose response and overall clinical status.
- Typical adult starting dose for type 2 diabetes: 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. Hi-Glitazone 15 mg tab provides the 15 mg strength; your doctor may adjust the dose or combine it with other strengths or medications as needed.
- Route of administration: Oral.
- Can be taken with or without food; take with a glass of water at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
- Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, break, or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises otherwise.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Use as part of a complete diabetes management plan including diet control, regular physical activity, weight management, and regular blood glucose monitoring.
- Do not stop taking the medication or change the dose without consulting your doctor.
Clinical Benefits:
- Improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and adipose tissue by acting as a selective agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), enhancing the action of endogenous insulin.
- Reduces blood glucose and HbA1c levels, helping to achieve and maintain better long-term glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes.
- Decreases hepatic gluconeogenesis (glucose production by the liver), contributing to lower fasting blood glucose levels.
- Stimulates GLUT4 (glucose transporter 4) expression and translocation, improving glucose uptake into muscle and fat cells.
- Helps lower circulating insulin levels by improving insulin sensitivity, which may reduce the burden on pancreatic beta cells.
- Favourably affects lipid profile by raising HDL ("good") cholesterol and lowering serum triglycerides, generally without significant change in LDL cholesterol, which may support cardiovascular risk management as part of overall diabetes care.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in patients with heart failure or history of heart failure (especially NYHA Class III or IV) due to risk of fluid retention and worsening cardiac function.
- Use with caution in patients with edema, cardiovascular disease, or at risk of heart failure; monitor for rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, and swelling of legs or ankles.
- Not recommended in patients with active liver disease or significantly elevated liver enzymes; liver function tests should be performed before starting therapy and periodically thereafter.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of bladder cancer; report any blood in urine, painful urination, or unexplained urinary symptoms to your doctor.
- May cause or worsen macular edema; patients with visual changes should seek prompt ophthalmologic evaluation.
- May increase risk of bone fractures, particularly in women; use with caution in patients at high risk of osteoporosis or fractures.
- Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Hypoglycaemia risk increases when used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycaemic agents (e.g., sulfonylureas); dose adjustment of concomitant agents may be required.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Insulin is usually preferred in pregnancy for diabetes control. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking other medications, or if you have medical conditions such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, edema, bladder cancer, or eye problems.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects: weight gain, fluid retention (edema), headache, upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, muscle pain, and mild gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea or abdominal discomfort).
- Possible hypoglycaemia when used in combination with insulin or other oral hypoglycaemic agents (symptoms include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger, palpitations, confusion). Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow your doctor’s advice on dose adjustments.
- Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): signs of heart failure (shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, swelling of legs/ankles), chest pain, severe shortness of breath, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or signs of liver dysfunction.
- Other important adverse effects: increased risk of bone fractures (especially in women), possible macular edema (blurred or decreased vision), and potential increased risk of bladder cancer with long-term use; report any unusual urinary or visual symptoms promptly.
- This is not a complete list of side effects. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about any unexpected or bothersome symptoms.
