About the product

Actos 15 Mg 30 Tablets

Description:

Actos 15 mg 30 tablets is an oral prescription antidiabetic medicine containing pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione (tzd) class insulin sensitizer. It is used as part of a comprehensive diabetes care plan, including diet and exercise, to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. By enhancing the body’s response to insulin, Actos helps lower blood glucose and hba1c levels and supports long‑term prevention of diabetes complications under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non‑insulin‑dependent diabetes) in adults, as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents (such as metformin, sulfonylureas) or insulin, when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycaemic control.
  • Improvement of fasting and post‑prandial blood glucose levels.
  • Reduction of hba1c to help lower the risk of long‑term diabetes‑related complications (e.g. neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular events) when used as part of a full diabetes management plan.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Pioglitazone hydrochloride – 15 mg per tablet (thiazolidinedione insulin sensitizer).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual adult dose: 15 mg to 30 mg once daily, as prescribed by the physician. The 15 mg strength is typically used as a starting dose or for dose adjustment; do not change your dose without medical advice.
  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
  • Combination therapy: May be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, according to your doctor’s instructions. Dose of concomitant medications may need adjustment.
  • Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Duration of use: Long‑term therapy as directed by your healthcare provider. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, hba1c, liver function, and body weight is recommended.
  • Special populations: Dose adjustments and careful monitoring may be required in elderly patients or those with certain medical conditions. Use only under strict medical supervision.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and adipose tissue by acting as a selective agonist of ppar gama (peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor gama), enhancing glucose uptake via increased glut4 expression and translocation.
  • Reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis, contributing to lower fasting blood glucose and improved overall glycaemic control.
  • Decreases blood glucose and hba1c levels, helping to achieve and maintain target glycaemic goals in type 2 diabetes when combined with diet and exercise.
  • Improves lipid profile by raising hdl cholesterol and lowering serum triglycerides, generally without significant change in ldl levels, which may support cardiovascular risk reduction as part of comprehensive diabetes management.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with current or history of heart failure (especially nyha class iii or iv) due to risk of fluid retention and worsening heart failure.
  • Use with caution in patients with edema, cardiac disease, or at risk of heart failure; monitor for rapid weight gain, dyspnea, or swelling.
  • Not recommended in patients with active liver disease or elevated liver enzymes; liver function tests should be performed before starting therapy and periodically thereafter.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of bladder cancer or unexplained hematuria; discuss risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • May cause or worsen macular edema; patients with visual symptoms should have prompt ophthalmologic evaluation.
  • May increase risk of bone fractures, particularly in women; consider bone health and fall‑prevention strategies.
  • Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding; use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to mother and fetus or infant.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, heart disease, edema, kidney impairment, bladder problems, or any serious chronic condition.
  • May cause hypoglycaemia when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas; dose adjustment of concomitant therapy may be required.
  • Do not share this medication with others and do not use it for any condition other than that for which it was prescribed.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects: weight gain, fluid retention or edema (swelling of ankles, legs, or hands), headache, muscle pain, upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, and mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Less common but important: anemia, increased risk of bone fractures (especially in women), visual disturbances including macular edema, and mild elevation of liver enzymes.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): signs of heart failure (shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, swelling of feet or legs), severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or tongue, difficulty breathing), dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), or blood in urine or painful urination.
  • If you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Storage Instructions:
