About the product

Aig Esomeprazole 40 Mg 21 Capsules

Description:

AIG Esomeprazole 40 mg is a prescription oral medicine in capsule form containing esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce excess stomach acid. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and erosive esophagitis. By effectively suppressing gastric acid secretion, AIG Esomeprazole 40 mg helps relieve symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric pain, and promotes healing of acid-induced damage in the stomach and esophagus.

Indications:

  • Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and chest discomfort related to acid reflux.
  • Healing and maintenance treatment of erosive esophagitis caused by gastric acid.
  • Treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
  • Prevention and treatment of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers in at-risk patients.
  • Management of conditions requiring long-term acid suppression as directed by a physician (e.g., chronic GERD).
  • Relief of acid-related dyspepsia symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, bloating, and burning sensation, as prescribed by a doctor.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Esomeprazole – 40 mg per capsule.
  • Other inactive ingredients (excipients) are present to form the capsule but specific excipient details and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  • Typical adult dose for GERD and erosive esophagitis (general reference): 40 mg once daily, usually for 4–8 weeks, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the capsule, as this may affect the enteric coating and reduce effectiveness.
  • It is usually taken before a meal, preferably in the morning, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Duration of treatment depends on the condition being treated and your doctor’s assessment. Do not stop treatment abruptly without medical advice, especially in long-term use.
  • Patients with severe liver impairment may require dose adjustment; follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides potent and sustained reduction of gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric proton pump (H+ / K+ ATPase) in parietal cells.
  • Helps relieve heartburn, acid regurgitation, and other GERD-related symptoms, improving daily comfort and quality of life.
  • Promotes healing of erosive esophagitis and gastric/duodenal ulcers by reducing acid exposure to damaged mucosa.
  • Helps prevent NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients who require long-term NSAID therapy and are at increased risk of ulceration.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
  • Do not use without medical supervision if you have persistent or severe symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, vomiting of blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, or chest pain; these may indicate a more serious condition that requires evaluation.
  • Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may be associated with increased risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and certain infections (e.g., Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea). Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment; dose adjustment may be required under medical supervision.
  • Esomeprazole may interact with certain medicines (e.g., clopidogrel, warfarin, diazepam, phenytoin, digoxin, some antifungals and antivirals). Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use during pregnancy should be based on a risk–benefit assessment by a healthcare professional.
  • If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before use, as it is not known with certainty how much passes into breast milk and whether it may affect the infant.
  • Not intended for self-medication in children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatrician.
  • Do not use this medicine to relieve chest pain without medical evaluation, as chest pain may be a sign of a serious heart problem.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, severe kidney disease, osteoporosis, or a history of low magnesium levels.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, and dizziness.
  • Less common side effects can include dry mouth, skin rash, itching, or swelling. If you experience severe skin reactions (blistering, peeling), stop use and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Long-term use may rarely lead to low magnesium levels (symptoms may include muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, seizures), vitamin B12 deficiency, or increased risk of certain infections. Inform your doctor if you develop persistent diarrhea, muscle weakness, or palpitations.
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema) are rare but require immediate medical attention. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, or severe dizziness.
  • If you notice any unusual or persistent side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
