Allerban S.R 2 Mg Tablets
Description:
Allerban S.R 2 mg tablets are a sustained-release prescription antihistamine medication containing ketotifen, indicated for the prevention and long-term management of allergic conditions. As a second-generation h1 antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer, Allerban S.R helps reduce allergic inflammation, control symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes, and is used as prophylaxis in bronchial asthma. The sustained-release (S.R) formulation provides gradual, prolonged action to support 24-hour allergy control with convenient dosing under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Allergic rhinitis (seasonal or perennial), including symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and nasal itching.
- Allergic conjunctivitis with symptoms such as red, itchy, and watery eyes due to allergens.
- Prophylaxis (preventive treatment) of bronchial asthma as an add-on therapy, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks when used regularly.
- General allergic conditions where an h1 antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer is indicated, as assessed by a physician.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Ketotifen – 2 mg per sustained-release tablet.
- Other excipients: Not specified in available information. Full list of inactive ingredients is not available; please refer to the package insert.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- All dosing must be determined and supervised by a physician, especially for children, elderly patients, and those with chronic diseases.
- Typical adult dose (if not otherwise prescribed): 1 tablet of Allerban S.R 2 mg once or twice daily, preferably at the same times each day. Exact regimen should follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this may affect the sustained-release properties.
- Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor advises otherwise. Taking with food may help reduce any potential stomach discomfort.
- For prophylaxis of bronchial asthma, regular daily use is required; therapeutic effect may appear gradually over several weeks. Do not stop treatment abruptly without consulting your doctor.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration of use. Long-term therapy should be periodically reviewed by your healthcare provider.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides dual antiallergic action as a mast cell stabilizer and noncompetitive h1 antihistamine, helping to control both early and late allergic responses.
- Reduces symptoms of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery or itchy eyes, improving daily comfort and quality of life.
- Helps in the prophylaxis of bronchial asthma by inhibiting airway hyperreactivity and reducing eosinophil influx into inflamed airways when used regularly as prescribed.
- Sustained-release formulation supports prolonged effect and more stable blood levels of ketotifen, potentially allowing convenient once or twice daily dosing.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to ketotifen or any of the tablet components.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy or seizure disorders, as antihistamines may lower the seizure threshold.
- May cause drowsiness or dizziness, especially at the start of treatment. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Concomitant use with sedatives, hypnotics, or alcohol may potentiate central nervous system depression; avoid or limit such combinations and follow medical advice.
- Avoid concomitant use with certain oral antidiabetics, as a fall in thrombocyte (platelet) count has been reported when ketotifen is combined with some oral antidiabetic agents. Inform your doctor if you are taking diabetes medications.
- Use with caution in hepatic or renal impairment; dose adjustment or close monitoring may be required as directed by a physician.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Ketotifen should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
- Breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before use; the excretion of ketotifen in breast milk is possible and risk–benefit should be assessed.
- Not intended for self-medication in children; pediatric use must be strictly under medical supervision with age-appropriate dosing.
- Consult your doctor before use if you are taking other prescription medicines, over-the-counter drugs, or herbal supplements to avoid potential interactions.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision; it is a prescription medicine to be used as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, mild sedation, increased appetite, and weight gain, especially at the beginning of therapy.
- Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, stomach discomfort, or mild abdominal pain may occur in some patients.
- Less common side effects can include nervousness, irritability, headache, or sleep disturbances.
- Rarely, allergic skin reactions (rash, itching, urticaria) or more serious hypersensitivity reactions may occur; discontinue use and seek medical attention if these appear.
- Very rarely, a decrease in platelet count (thrombocytopenia) has been reported, especially when used with certain oral antidiabetics; report any unusual bruising or bleeding to your doctor immediately.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or any signs of a serious allergic reaction.
