Amitriptine 50 Mg 30 Tab

Description:

Amitriptine 50 mg 30 tab is a prescription oral medicine containing amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used primarily for the treatment of depression and certain chronic pain and neurological conditions. It works by increasing the levels of key neurotransmitters (serotonin and noradrenaline) in the brain, helping to improve mood, reduce anxiety, and relieve some types of nerve-related pain and migraine. This product is intended for adult use under medical supervision and is manufactured by Future Pharmaceutical Industries (FPI).

Indications:

  • Treatment of major depressive disorder and other depressive states, helping relieve low mood, loss of interest, and associated anxiety.
  • Prophylaxis of migraine headaches, especially in patients who also have symptoms of depression or anxiety.
  • Adjunctive treatment in bulimia nervosa as prescribed by a specialist.
  • Management of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in children only when specifically prescribed by a pediatric specialist and after organic causes have been excluded.
  • May be used off-label for certain types of neuropathic pain or chronic tension-type headaches as directed by a physician.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Amitriptyline hydrochloride – 50 mg per tablet (tricyclic antidepressant, tertiary amine).
  • Excipients: Exact excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Refer to the package leaflet for full details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not self-medicate with this medicine.
  • Adults (depression and other indications): The usual starting dose and titration schedule are determined individually by the doctor. A 50 mg strength tablet is typically used as part of a once-daily or divided-dose regimen, often taken in the evening or at bedtime to reduce daytime drowsiness.
  • Migraine prophylaxis: Dose and duration are individualized; treatment usually starts at a lower dose and may be gradually increased up to the effective dose, which may include 50 mg tablets, as directed by the physician.
  • Bulimia nervosa and nocturnal enuresis: Use only under specialist supervision with carefully adjusted dosing according to age, weight, and clinical condition.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises otherwise.
  • Can be taken with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, taking the dose with food or after a meal may help.
  • Take the medicine at the same time each day to maintain stable blood levels.
  • Do not abruptly stop taking amitriptyline without consulting your doctor, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms (e.g., nausea, headache, malaise, sleep disturbances). The dose should usually be tapered gradually.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps relieve symptoms of depression by increasing serotonin and noradrenaline levels in the brain, improving mood, sleep, and overall emotional well-being.
  • Provides effective prophylaxis for migraine headaches, reducing attack frequency, intensity, and associated disability in many patients.
  • Can support the management of bulimia nervosa as part of a comprehensive treatment plan including psychotherapy and nutritional counseling.
  • Assists in controlling nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in selected patients under specialist supervision, improving quality of life and sleep.
  • May reduce certain types of chronic or neuropathic pain when used off-label, improving daily functioning and comfort.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amitriptyline or any of the excipients.
  • Contraindicated in patients with recent myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure (CHF), serious cardiac arrhythmias, or severe conduction disturbances unless specifically advised by a cardiologist.
  • Contraindicated in severe liver disease or significant hepatic impairment.
  • Do not use concomitantly with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within at least 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI, due to risk of serious, potentially fatal interactions.
  • Use with extreme caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, history of stroke, hyperthyroidism, or those receiving thyroid medication.
  • Use with caution in patients with glaucoma (especially narrow-angle), urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy, or other conditions that may be worsened by anticholinergic effects.
  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and impaired concentration. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects and should be avoided or minimized.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, or suicidal thoughts or behavior. Close monitoring is required, especially at the start of therapy or when changing dose.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Amitriptyline should be used during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly needed and under strict medical supervision.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, cardiovascular disease, or any serious medical condition.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Accidental overdose in children can be fatal and requires immediate medical attention.
  • Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including other antidepressants, antipsychotics, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, antihistamines, and herbal supplements (e.g., St. John’s wort), to avoid interactions.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects: dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, increased appetite, sweating, difficulty urinating, and mild headache. These are often related to the anticholinergic and sedative properties of amitriptyline.
  • Other possible side effects: nausea, vomiting, changes in taste, confusion (especially in elderly patients), tremor, palpitations, low blood pressure (especially when standing up), and sleep disturbances.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): chest pain, severe dizziness or fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat, seizures, severe constipation or abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), unusual bleeding or bruising, signs of allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing).
  • Mood and behavior changes: worsening depression, new or increased suicidal thoughts, agitation, irritability, or unusual behavior may occur, particularly at the beginning of treatment or when changing dose. Contact your doctor immediately if these occur.
