About the product

Angiosartan 20/12.5 Mg 28 Tablets

Description:

Angiosartan Plus 20/12.5 mg film-coated tablets is a prescription antihypertensive medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. It combines two active ingredients, olmesartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker – ARB) and hydrochlorothiazide (a thiazide diuretic), to provide dual blood pressure control. By relaxing blood vessels and promoting the excretion of excess salt and water, Angiosartan Plus helps reduce blood pressure, thereby lowering the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage.

Indications:

  • Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.
  • Indicated in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with olmesartan alone.
  • May be used as a replacement therapy in patients already controlled on the combination of olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide given separately at the same doses.
  • Helps reduce the risk of hypertension-related complications such as stroke, heart attack, and long-term kidney damage when used as part of an overall cardiovascular risk management plan.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Olmesartan medoxomil – 20 mg per tablet (angiotensin II receptor blocker – ARB).
  • Hydrochlorothiazide – 12.5 mg per tablet (thiazide diuretic).
  • Other inactive ingredients (excipients, film-coating agents, stabilizers) are present but specific details , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for the full excipient list.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not change your dose or stop the medicine without medical advice.
  • Typical adult dose: 1 tablet once daily, preferably at the same time each day. The exact dose and duration are determined by your doctor based on your blood pressure response and clinical condition.
  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the film-coated tablet.
  • With or without food: Angiosartan Plus can be taken with or without food, but it is preferable to take it consistently in the same manner each day.
  • If a dose is missed: Take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Long-term therapy: Hypertension treatment is usually long-term. Continue taking the medication even if you feel well, unless your doctor tells you to stop.
  • Special populations: Dose adjustments may be required in patients with kidney or liver impairment, elderly patients, or those taking other blood pressure medicines. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective blood pressure reduction through dual mechanism: vasodilation by olmesartan and diuretic effect by hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Helps lower the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
  • Supports kidney protection by reducing high blood pressure, which is a major contributor to chronic kidney disease progression.
  • Once-daily dosing improves treatment adherence and offers convenient blood pressure control throughout the day.
  • Combination therapy may be more effective than monotherapy in patients not adequately controlled on a single agent.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan, hydrochlorothiazide, other sulfonamide-derived drugs, or any component of the formulation.
  • Do not use during pregnancy. Medicines that act on the renin-angiotensin system (such as ARBs) can cause injury or death to the developing fetus. If pregnancy is detected, stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Not recommended during breastfeeding unless clearly advised by a doctor.
  • Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment, anuria (inability to produce urine), or severe liver impairment/cholestasis, unless specifically evaluated and approved by a specialist.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, gout, or a history of electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, low sodium, high calcium).
  • May cause electrolyte disturbances (low potassium, low sodium, low magnesium, increased uric acid, increased blood sugar). Regular monitoring of blood tests may be required.
  • May cause symptomatic hypotension (low blood pressure), especially in patients who are volume-depleted (e.g., on high-dose diuretics, low-salt diet, vomiting, diarrhea). Stand up slowly from sitting or lying positions.
  • Use with caution in patients taking other antihypertensives, diuretics, lithium, NSAIDs, or antidiabetic medicines due to potential interactions. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • May affect kidney function, particularly when combined with NSAIDs or in patients with pre-existing kidney disease. Regular monitoring is recommended.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking other medications, or have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, gout, or heart disease.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision. It is a prescription-only medicine and must be used under healthcare professional guidance.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Accidental ingestion can be harmful.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, weakness, or lightheadedness, especially at the start of treatment or when the dose is increased.
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea may occur.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide may cause increased urination, muscle cramps, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium or sodium), increased uric acid (which may trigger gout), or slight increases in blood sugar and cholesterol.
  • Less common but serious side effects may include severe hypotension (very low blood pressure), kidney function deterioration, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing), or eye pain/vision changes (possible angle-closure glaucoma related to thiazides).
  • Stop the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe dizziness or fainting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, sudden vision changes, chest pain, or signs of severe allergic reaction.
  • This is not a complete list of side effects. Always refer to the patient leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any unusual symptoms.
