About the product

Asmalair 10 Mg Tablets

Description:

Asmalair 10 mg tablets are a prescription oral asthma medication containing montelukast, a leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor antagonist. It is used as a long-term controller therapy to help prevent asthma symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Asmalair works by blocking leukotrienes, inflammatory substances in the lungs and airways that cause bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation. It is not a rescue medicine for sudden asthma attacks and should be used regularly as directed by a healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Long-term treatment and prophylaxis of chronic asthma in adults and children as prescribed by a doctor.
  • Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (exercise-induced asthma) in patients where indicated by a physician.
  • Relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and itching) in patients who also have asthma, as directed by a healthcare provider.
  • Reduction of asthma exacerbations triggered by allergens and environmental factors when used as maintenance therapy.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Montelukast sodium – 10 mg (as montelukast) per tablet.
  • Other tablet excipients (fillers, binders, coatings, etc.) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package leaflet for full excipient list.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use Asmalair 10 mg tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
  • Typical adult dose for asthma and/or allergic rhinitis (when 10 mg strength is indicated): 1 tablet (10 mg) once daily, usually in the evening. The exact regimen must be confirmed by the prescribing physician.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can generally be taken with or without food, at the same time each day.
  • For prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, your doctor may advise taking the tablet a few hours before exercise; do not take additional doses within 24 hours. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
  • Do not use Asmalair 10 mg tablets to treat acute asthma attacks. Always keep your fast-acting (rescue) inhaler available for sudden breathing problems.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Use regularly for maximum benefit, even when you feel well and have no symptoms, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps prevent asthma attacks by reducing leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation.
  • Improves control of chronic asthma symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, and nighttime coughing.
  • Reduces the frequency of asthma exacerbations and the need for rescue bronchodilators when used as part of a maintenance regimen.
  • Provides additional relief from allergic rhinitis symptoms (sneezing, runny or blocked nose) in patients with concomitant asthma.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to montelukast or any of the tablet excipients.
  • Not intended for the relief of acute asthma attacks. In case of sudden breathing difficulty, use your rescue inhaler and seek medical attention if symptoms do not improve.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; dose adjustment or special monitoring may be required. Inform your doctor if you have any history of liver disease.
  • Neuropsychiatric events (including agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and very rarely suicidal thoughts and behavior) have been reported with montelukast. Inform your doctor immediately if you or your child experience mood or behavior changes.
  • Drug interactions: Barbiturates and primidone (e.g., phenobarbital) can reduce plasma concentrations of montelukast, potentially decreasing its effectiveness. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including anticonvulsants and herbal products.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Montelukast should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are breastfeeding. Your doctor will weigh the potential benefits and risks.
  • Use with caution in patients with known phenylketonuria or other metabolic conditions if excipients are relevant (refer to package insert).
  • Do not share this medication with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, and tiredness.
  • Other possible side effects: upper respiratory tract infections, cough, fever, rash, dizziness, and joint or muscle pain.
  • Neuropsychiatric effects (especially in children and adolescents) such as irritability, aggression, agitation, anxiety, abnormal dreams, insomnia, depression, and very rarely suicidal thoughts or behavior. Seek medical advice immediately if any mood or behavior changes occur.
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing may occur. Stop the medication and seek emergency medical attention if signs of a severe allergic reaction appear.
  • Rare but serious side effects may include liver function disturbances (e.g., yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe fatigue, abdominal pain). Contact your doctor promptly if these occur.
  • If you experience any unusual or persistent side effects, contact your healthcare provider for assessment and guidance.
