About the product

Atacand Plus 16-12.5 Mg 14 Tablets

Description:

Atacand Plus 16-12.5 mg is a prescription antihypertensive medicine combining an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) with a thiazide diuretic. It is formulated to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults who require combination therapy for effective blood pressure control. By relaxing blood vessels and promoting gentle removal of excess salt and water, Atacand Plus helps reduce cardiovascular risk and supports long-term heart and kidney protection when used as directed by a physician.

Indications:

  • Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.
  • Indicated when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with candesartan cilexetil or hydrochlorothiazide alone.
  • Helps reduce the risk of complications associated with uncontrolled hypertension, such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage (as part of an overall cardiovascular risk management plan).

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Candesartan cilexetil – 16 mg per tablet (angiotensin II receptor antagonist / ARB).
  • Hydrochlorothiazide – 12.5 mg per tablet (thiazide diuretic).
  • Other excipients: Full list of inactive ingredients is not available in the provided information; please refer to the package leaflet for complete details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual adult dose: One tablet (16 mg candesartan cilexetil / 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide) once daily, or as directed by your physician.
  • Can be taken with or without food; swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, at the same time each day.
  • Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your blood pressure response and clinical condition. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes (especially potassium and sodium) is recommended during treatment.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective blood pressure reduction by combining two complementary mechanisms: vasodilation (candesartan) and mild diuresis (hydrochlorothiazide).
  • Helps decrease peripheral vascular resistance and reduces the workload on the heart.
  • Assists in lowering the risk of hypertension-related complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and chronic kidney disease when used as part of comprehensive cardiovascular risk management.
  • Once-daily dosing supports convenient, consistent blood pressure control and may improve treatment adherence.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to candesartan cilexetil, hydrochlorothiazide, other sulfonamide-derived drugs, or any component of the product.
  • Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk of fetal injury and death. If pregnancy is detected, discontinue Atacand Plus as soon as possible.
  • Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, anuria, or severe hepatic impairment and in patients with refractory hypokalemia, hypercalcemia, or symptomatic hyperuricemia.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, heart failure, volume depletion, electrolyte imbalance, diabetes, gout, or a history of severe allergic reactions.
  • Concomitant use with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium may increase the risk of hyperkalemia; close monitoring is required.
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) may reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment, especially in dehydrated or elderly patients.
  • Concomitant use with lithium may increase lithium blood levels and risk of toxicity; if unavoidable, monitor lithium levels closely.
  • May cause symptomatic hypotension, particularly in volume- or salt-depleted patients (e.g., those on high-dose diuretics). Initiate therapy carefully and monitor blood pressure.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other medications, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, gout, or other chronic medical conditions.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without a physician’s supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure (hypotension), increased urination, and mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide may cause electrolyte disturbances (low potassium, low sodium, low magnesium), increased uric acid (which may trigger gout), and slight increases in blood glucose or cholesterol in some patients.
  • Less common but serious side effects can include severe hypotension, kidney function deterioration, severe electrolyte imbalance, allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), or eye symptoms such as sudden vision changes (possible acute angle-closure glaucoma). Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • If you experience persistent dizziness, muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or tongue, or any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor promptly.

Storage Instructions:

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
