Bioglita Plus 15/850 Mg 30 Tablets

Description:

Bioglita Plus 15/850 mg 30 tablets is an oral anti-diabetic prescription medicine used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It combines two active ingredients, pioglitazone and metformin, to help improve blood glucose control in adults when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient. Bioglita Plus belongs to the class of insulin-sensitizing agents and biguanides, working together to reduce insulin resistance, decrease hepatic glucose production, and enhance peripheral glucose uptake. It is typically used as part of a comprehensive diabetes care plan that includes lifestyle modification, regular blood glucose monitoring, and medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly in patients who are insufficiently controlled on metformin alone or pioglitazone alone.
  • Helps lower elevated fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.
  • Improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues (muscle and adipose tissue).
  • May be used as part of combination therapy with diet and exercise to reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications when adequately controlling blood sugar.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Pioglitazone hydrochloride – 15 mg per film-coated tablet (thiazolidinedione class insulin sensitizer).
  • Metformin hydrochloride – 850 mg per film-coated tablet (biguanide oral anti-diabetic).
  • Excipients: Film-coating and tablet core excipients such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and colorants are present; specific excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package insert for full excipient details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Bioglita Plus 15/850 mg is for oral use only and should be taken exactly as prescribed by a physician experienced in the management of diabetes.
  • Tablets are usually taken once or twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin (such as nausea or abdominal discomfort). Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless directed by your doctor.
  • The starting dose, titration schedule, and maximum daily dose must be individualized based on the patient’s current therapy, blood glucose levels, and tolerability. Do not adjust the dose or discontinue treatment without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • Use in children and adolescents is generally not recommended unless specifically directed by a specialist, as safety and efficacy data may be limited.
  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose, HbA1c, liver function, and kidney function is recommended during treatment.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides dual mechanism of action: pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral glucose utilization.
  • Helps achieve better glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients who are inadequately controlled on monotherapy.
  • May contribute to improved fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels when used with appropriate diet and exercise.
  • Metformin component may have favorable effects on lipid profile in type 2 diabetics, potentially reducing triglycerides and improving overall metabolic control.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), or known hypersensitivity to metformin, pioglitazone, or any of the excipients.
  • Pioglitazone may cause or exacerbate congestive heart failure; use with caution in patients with cardiac disease and avoid in patients with severe heart failure. Monitor for signs of fluid retention (edema, rapid weight gain, shortness of breath).
  • Metformin is associated with a rare but serious risk of lactic acidosis, particularly in patients with renal impairment, dehydration, severe infection, liver disease, or conditions associated with hypoxia (e.g., heart failure, respiratory failure). Discontinue immediately if lactic acidosis is suspected.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver disease, history of bladder cancer (pioglitazone has been associated with an increased risk in some studies), or macular edema.
  • Temporarily discontinue metformin-containing products before radiologic studies with iodinated contrast agents or major surgery and restart only after renal function has been re-evaluated and found to be normal.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Insulin may be preferred during pregnancy; your doctor will decide the most appropriate therapy.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are taking other medications such as insulin, sulfonylureas, diuretics, corticosteroids, beta-blockers, or drugs that may affect kidney or liver function.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol intake while using this medicine, as alcohol increases the risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision; it is a prescription medicine that must be used under a doctor’s guidance.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, metallic taste, and loss of appetite (mainly due to metformin).
  • Pioglitazone-related side effects may include weight gain, fluid retention, peripheral edema, headache, and increased risk of upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Hypoglycemia is more likely when Bioglita Plus is used in combination with other anti-diabetic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas; symptoms include sweating, dizziness, tremor, palpitations, and confusion.
  • Rare but serious side effects include lactic acidosis (symptoms: rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, irregular heartbeat, feeling cold), severe allergic reactions, liver dysfunction (jaundice, dark urine, persistent nausea), and heart failure (shortness of breath, swelling of legs, rapid weight gain).
  • Stop the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of lactic acidosis, severe allergic reaction, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or sudden vision changes.
