About the product

Brimonidine Eye Drops

Description:

Brimonidine 0.2% Eye Drops 5 ml by Jamjoom Pharma is a prescription ophthalmic medicine used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It contains brimonidine tartrate, a relatively selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a topical intraocular pressure–lowering agent. By reducing the production of aqueous humor and enhancing uveoscleral outflow, Brimonidine Eye Drops help protect the optic nerve and support long-term eye health. This sterile solution is intended for adult use under the supervision of an eye care professional.

Indications:

  • Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
  • Management of ocular hypertension to help prevent optic nerve damage and visual field loss.
  • Adjunctive therapy with other intraocular pressure–lowering agents when additional IOP reduction is needed (as directed by an ophthalmologist).

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Brimonidine tartrate – 0.2% (2 mg/ml) ophthalmic solution.
  • Other excipients: sterile isotonic solution with buffering and stabilizing agents (full excipient list not available in the provided information).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual adult dose (if not otherwise prescribed): 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 2–3 times daily, approximately every 8–12 hours, or as directed by your ophthalmologist.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before use.
  • Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instill one drop without touching the eye or eyelids with the dropper tip.
  • After instillation, close the eye gently and apply light pressure with a finger to the inner corner of the eye (nasolacrimal occlusion) for 1–2 minutes to reduce systemic absorption.
  • If using more than one ophthalmic medication, leave at least 5–10 minutes between different eye drops. Ointments should be applied last.
  • If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.
  • For ophthalmic use only. Do not inject or ingest.
  • Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor and do not stop treatment abruptly without medical advice.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Effectively lowers elevated intraocular pressure, a major risk factor for glaucoma progression.
  • Helps protect the optic nerve and preserve visual function in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
  • Can be used as monotherapy or as an add-on to other IOP-lowering medications when additional pressure reduction is needed.
  • Topical ophthalmic formulation targets the eye directly, helping to minimize systemic exposure compared with oral therapies.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • For use only under medical supervision. Always follow your ophthalmologist’s instructions.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to brimonidine tartrate or any component of the formulation.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe cardiovascular disease, depression, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, Raynaud’s phenomenon, orthostatic hypotension, or thromboangiitis obliterans (as alpha-2 agonists may affect blood pressure and circulation).
  • Drug interactions – antihypertensives/cardiac glycosides: Because brimonidine tartrate may reduce blood pressure, caution is advised when used with systemic antihypertensives and/or cardiac glycosides. Monitor blood pressure and clinical status as directed by your physician.
  • CNS depressants: Although specific interaction studies have not been conducted, the possibility of an additive or potentiating effect with central nervous system depressants (such as alcohol, barbiturates, opiates, sedatives, or anesthetics) should be considered.
  • Use with caution in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or tricyclic antidepressants, as these may affect the metabolism and action of adrenergic agents (consult your doctor).
  • Remove contact lenses before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion, if your doctor allows lens use.
  • May cause transient blurred vision or visual disturbances after instillation; do not drive or operate machinery until vision is clear.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed.
  • Consult your doctor before use if breastfeeding; systemic absorption may occur and risk to the infant should be evaluated.
  • Not intended for use in infants and very young children unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common local side effects may include eye redness, burning or stinging sensation, itching, dry eyes, foreign body sensation, conjunctival folliculosis, or mild blurred vision after instillation.
  • Other possible effects: headache, dry mouth, fatigue, drowsiness, or dizziness due to systemic absorption.
  • Less common but more serious reactions may include significant allergic conjunctivitis, eyelid edema, marked eye redness, or severe irritation. Discontinue use and contact your doctor if these occur.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe dizziness, fainting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Storage Instructions:

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Do not use if the solution becomes discolored, cloudy, or shows particles. Close the bottle immediately after use and avoid contaminating the dropper tip.
