About the product

Cataflam 50 Mg 20 Tablets

Description:

Cataflam 50 mg is a prescription-strength non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (nsaid) containing diclofenac potassium. It is used as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic medication for the short-term treatment of acute pain and inflammatory conditions. Each pack contains 20 sugar-coated tablets designed for oral use, providing fast and effective relief from musculoskeletal pain, joint disorders, dental pain, menstrual pain, and other inflammatory conditions. Cataflam 50 mg is manufactured by Novartis and is intended for adult and adolescent patients as directed by a healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Relief of pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory spinal conditions.
  • Management of acute gout attacks and associated joint pain and swelling.
  • Treatment of osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint diseases with pain and inflammation.
  • Relief of pain and inflammation in various joint disorders, including crystal deposition diseases.
  • Short-term relief of pain and inflammation following dental procedures and minor orthopedic surgery.
  • Management of primary dysmenorrhoea (painful menstrual periods).
  • Symptomatic relief of mild to moderate acute pain where an nsaid is indicated, such as musculoskeletal pain, sprains, and strains.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Diclofenac potassium – 50 mg per tablet.
  • Excipients (including sugar-coating agents and tablet core excipients) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert for full excipient list.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms.
  • Adults: Typical dose is 50 mg two to three times daily, as prescribed by the physician. Maximum total daily dose should not be exceeded as per your doctor’s recommendation and local guidelines.
  • Adolescents (age and dose restrictions vary by country): Use only under medical supervision and according to the doctor’s instructions.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew the sugar-coated tablets.
  • Cataflam 50 mg can be taken with or after food to help reduce the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration. Long-term continuous use increases the risk of serious side effects, especially on the stomach, kidneys, liver, and cardiovascular system.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Always follow your doctor’s instructions and the patient information leaflet supplied with the product.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective analgesic action for rapid relief of mild to moderate acute pain, including joint, muscle, and dental pain.
  • Reduces inflammation by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (particularly cox-2) and decreasing prostaglandin synthesis at the site of inflammation.
  • Offers antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects in conditions associated with inflammatory fever.
  • Improves mobility and functional capacity in patients with inflammatory joint and musculoskeletal disorders by reducing pain and swelling.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, other nsaids, or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other nsaids.
  • Contraindicated in active, suspected, or history of recurrent peptic ulcer/bleeding or gastrointestinal perforation related to previous nsaid therapy.
  • Use with extreme caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, inflammatory bowel disease, or gastritis.
  • Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors (e.g., hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking), as nsaids may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment; dose adjustment and close monitoring may be required.
  • Avoid use in late pregnancy (third trimester) due to risk of fetal and maternal complications (e.g., premature closure of ductus arteriosus, prolonged labor, bleeding).
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, other nsaids, corticosteroids, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssris), diuretics, antihypertensives, or any other chronic medications.
  • Not recommended for children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatric specialist.
  • May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.
  • Do not use concomitantly with other nsaids or high-dose aspirin unless directed by your doctor.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision; it is a prescription medication and should be used only as directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, and headache.
  • Gastrointestinal side effects such as gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation can occur, especially with higher doses or prolonged use.
  • Other possible side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, skin rash, itching, and edema (fluid retention).
  • Serious but less common side effects may include severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema, bronchospasm), severe skin reactions (e.g., stevens–johnson syndrome), liver dysfunction (hepatitis, elevated liver enzymes), kidney impairment, and serious cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke).
  • Stop using the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing), severe abdominal pain, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, unexplained weight gain, swelling of legs, chest pain, shortness of breath, or severe skin rash.
