Cipazole Forte Tablets
Description:
Cipazole Forte Tablets are a prescription antiprotozoal medicine containing secnidazole, used for the treatment of protozoal infections and certain anaerobic bacterial infections. Each tablet delivers a high-strength 1 g dose designed for single-dose or short-course therapy, helping to effectively eradicate parasites such as Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Trichomonas vaginalis, as well as bacteria involved in bacterial vaginosis. Cipazole Forte is formulated for adults and is typically used under medical supervision for gastrointestinal and genitourinary infections.
Indications:
- Intestinal amoebiasis (acute and chronic) and hepatic amoebiasis, as prescribed by a physician.
- Giardiasis (infection caused by Giardia lamblia), including acute diarrheal episodes related to this parasite.
- Trichomonas vaginitis (trichomoniasis) in adults, as directed by a healthcare provider.
- Bacterial vaginosis caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria.
- Other infections caused by susceptible protozoa and some anaerobic bacteria, according to physician judgment.
- Relief of associated symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, itching, and discomfort, when linked to the above infections.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Secnidazole – 1 g per tablet
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not self-medicate.
- Adults (typical regimens – may vary by doctor’s instructions):
- Amoebiasis / Giardiasis: a single 2 g dose (usually 2 tablets of 1 g taken once), or as directed by your doctor.
- Trichomonas vaginitis / Bacterial vaginosis: a single 2 g dose (2 tablets taken once), or according to your doctor’s regimen. Sexual partner treatment may be recommended.
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor advises otherwise.
- Can generally be taken with or without food; taking with food may help reduce stomach upset in sensitive individuals.
- Take the full prescribed dose even if symptoms improve early to ensure complete eradication of the infection.
- If you miss a scheduled dose in a multi-day regimen, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Not recommended for children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatrician with an appropriate dose adjustment.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides potent antiprotozoal activity against amoebiasis and giardiasis, helping to clear intestinal and hepatic infections.
- Effective in the treatment of trichomonas vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis, improving vaginal health and reducing abnormal discharge and discomfort.
- Broad spectrum activity against susceptible protozoa and some anaerobic bacteria, allowing simplified treatment of mixed infections.
- High-dose formulation (1 g per tablet) enables single-dose or short-course therapy, which may improve patient compliance and convenience.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to secnidazole, other nitroimidazole derivatives (such as metronidazole, tinidazole), or any component of the formulation.
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, severe renal impairment, or blood dyscrasias; dose adjustment or close monitoring may be required.
- Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for at least 48 hours after the last dose, as nitroimidazoles may cause Antabuse-like (disulfiram-like) reactions, including flushing, nausea, vomiting, and palpitations.
- Drug interactions:
- Warfarin and other oral anticoagulants: secnidazole may potentiate the anticoagulant effect, increasing risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of INR and dose adjustment may be needed.
- Disulfiram: concomitant use may increase risk of Antabuse-like reactions; avoid combined use.
- Cimetidine: may prolong the half-life of secnidazole, potentially increasing side effects.
- Lithium: may increase plasma lithium levels and risk of toxicity; monitor lithium levels and clinical status.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor after assessing risk versus benefit.
- May cause dizziness or confusion in some patients; avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or unwell.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, neurological disorders, or a history of seizures.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, metallic or bitter taste in the mouth, loss of appetite, and headache.
- Less common side effects can include dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, skin rash, or itching.
- Rare but serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing), severe skin reactions, numbness or tingling of extremities, seizures, or signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain).
- Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, neurological symptoms, or any unusual or severe side effects.
