Co Tareg 80/12.5 Mg 14 Tablets
Description:
Co Tareg 80/12.5 mg 14 tablets is a prescription antihypertensive medicine combining valsartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker, ARB) and hydrochlorothiazide (a thiazide diuretic). It is used to lower high blood pressure in adults when monotherapy is insufficient, helping to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. By relaxing blood vessels and promoting gentle removal of excess salt and water, Co Tareg provides effective, long-term blood pressure control under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Treatment of essential (primary) hypertension in adults.
- Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by valsartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone.
- Long-term management of high blood pressure to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Valsartan – 80 mg per film-coated tablet (angiotensin II receptor blocker, ARB).
- Hydrochlorothiazide – 12.5 mg per film-coated tablet (thiazide diuretic).
- Other inactive ingredients (excipients) are present to form the tablet; detailed excipient list and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for full composition.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by your physician. Do not change your dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
- Typical adult dose: 1 tablet (80 mg valsartan / 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your blood pressure response and clinical condition.
- Route of administration: Oral use.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.
- Can be taken with or without food; try to take it at the same time each day for consistent blood levels.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
- Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes (especially potassium, sodium, and magnesium) is recommended during therapy.
- Duration of use is long-term and individualized; continue treatment as directed even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides dual blood pressure control by blocking the effects of angiotensin II (vasoconstrictor) and promoting diuresis (removal of excess salt and water).
- Helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, and heart failure associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
- Improves blood vessel relaxation and lowers total peripheral resistance, contributing to more stable blood pressure levels.
- Convenient fixed-dose combination in a single tablet supports better treatment adherence compared with taking two separate medicines.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, other sulfonamide-derived drugs, or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in severe kidney impairment, anuria (inability to produce urine), severe liver impairment, biliary cirrhosis, or cholestasis, unless specifically evaluated and approved by a specialist.
- Do not use during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; ARBs can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. Use in the first trimester is not recommended.
- Not recommended during breastfeeding, as valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide may pass into breast milk.
- Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, renal artery stenosis, electrolyte imbalances (especially low sodium, low potassium, or low magnesium), gout, diabetes, or a history of severe allergic reactions.
- May cause dizziness or fatigue; avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Concomitant use with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium, or other medicines affecting the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (e.g., ACE inhibitors, other ARBs, aliskiren) requires strict medical supervision due to risk of hyperkalemia and kidney impairment.
- Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including NSAIDs, lithium, other antihypertensives, antidiabetic drugs, and corticosteroids, as interactions may require dose adjustment or monitoring.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, gout, heart failure, or electrolyte disturbances.
- Not intended for self-medication or use without a prescription and medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure (hypotension), and mild gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, abdominal pain).
- Hydrochlorothiazide-related effects may include increased urination, changes in electrolyte levels (low potassium, low sodium, low magnesium), increased blood uric acid (which may trigger gout in susceptible individuals), and mild increases in blood sugar or cholesterol.
- Less common but serious side effects can include severe hypotension, kidney function impairment, significant electrolyte disturbances, allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing), or signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain).
- Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe dizziness or fainting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin reactions, or any other worrying symptoms.
- This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient information leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any unusual symptoms.
