Dantrelax 25 Mg 30 Capsules
Description:
Dantrelax 25 mg 30 capsules is a prescription skeletal muscle relaxant medication containing dantrolene, used to reduce muscle spasticity and stiffness associated with upper motor neuron disorders. It acts directly on skeletal muscle by inhibiting calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, thereby decreasing abnormal muscle contraction and improving mobility, comfort, and function in patients with chronic spastic conditions. This product is intended for adult and pediatric patients (above 5 years) under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Management of chronic muscle spasticity resulting from upper motor neuron lesions.
- Spasticity associated with spinal cord injury.
- Spasticity following stroke (cerebrovascular accident).
- Muscle stiffness and spasticity due to multiple sclerosis.
- Spasticity in patients with cerebral palsy.
- Helps reduce painful muscle contractions, improve range of motion, and facilitate physiotherapy and rehabilitation in spasticity-related conditions.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Dantrolene sodium – 25 mg per capsule.
- Other excipients: Full list of inactive ingredients is not available in the provided information. Please refer to the package insert for complete excipient details.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Route of administration: Oral use only. Swallow the capsules whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew.
- Adults: Usual starting dose is 25 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased by 25 mg every 4–7 days, as tolerated, up to a maximum of 400 mg per day in 4 divided doses, according to the prescribing physician’s instructions.
- Children above 5 years: Initial dose: 0.5 mg/kg twice daily. If needed, the dose can be gradually increased by 0.5 mg/kg, up to 3 mg/kg, 2–4 times daily. Maximum total daily dose should not exceed 400 mg per day, as directed by the doctor.
- Use with or without food: Dantrelax capsules may be taken with or without food. Taking with food may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort in sensitive patients.
- Duration of treatment: Duration and maintenance dose must be individualized based on clinical response and tolerability. Long-term therapy should be regularly reassessed by the physician.
- Missed dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and the directions on the package insert.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps reduce muscle spasticity and stiffness in conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy.
- Improves mobility, range of motion, and functional ability, supporting daily activities and rehabilitation programs.
- Decreases painful muscle contractions and cramps, enhancing patient comfort and quality of life.
- Acts directly on skeletal muscle by inhibiting calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, providing targeted muscle relaxation without classical neuromuscular blockade.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Use only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dantrolene sodium or any component of the formulation.
- Use with extreme caution in patients with impaired liver function or a history of liver disease, as dantrolene may be associated with hepatotoxicity. Regular monitoring of liver function tests may be required.
- Use with caution in patients with severe cardiac or pulmonary impairment, or in those with muscle weakness, as excessive muscle relaxation may worsen these conditions.
- May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or weakness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require alertness until you know how the medication affects you.
- Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects; avoid or limit concurrent use as advised by your doctor.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Dantrelene should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
- Consult your doctor before use if breastfeeding. Your doctor will decide whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, considering the benefit to the mother.
- Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including muscle relaxants, CNS depressants, anticoagulants, or hepatotoxic drugs, to avoid potential interactions.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- If you experience signs of liver problems (such as persistent nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, jaundice), severe weakness, difficulty breathing, or allergic reactions (rash, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing), seek medical attention immediately.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, general weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache.
- Less common side effects: Muscle weakness, blurred vision, speech difficulties, insomnia, rash, increased liver enzymes.
- Serious side effects (seek medical attention immediately): Signs of liver toxicity (jaundice, dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, right upper abdominal pain), severe muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; severe rash; trouble breathing).
- Not all side effects are listed. If you notice any unusual or persistent symptoms, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
