Deconadal 20 Mg 21 Tablets
Description:
Deconadal 20 mg 21 tablets is a prescription antihyperlipidemic medication containing rosuvastatin, a statin used to lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels and help prevent cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. It works by inhibiting HMG‑CoA reductase in the liver, reducing the production of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Deconadal is intended for adults as part of a comprehensive lipid-lowering strategy that includes diet, exercise, and lifestyle modification.
Indications:
- Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (including familial and non-familial) and mixed dyslipidemia (elevated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides).
- Adjunct to diet in patients with elevated LDL cholesterol who do not achieve adequate control with lifestyle changes alone.
- Management of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments or when such treatments are not available.
- Reduction of cardiovascular risk in patients at high risk of a first cardiovascular event (such as heart attack or stroke), in addition to correction of other risk factors.
- Helps reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol, total cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B levels.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Rosuvastatin calcium – 20 mg per film-coated tablet (expressed as 20 mg rosuvastatin).
- Other inactive ingredients (excipients) are present in the tablet core and coating; detailed excipient list and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Deconadal 20 mg is an oral medicine to be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
- Usual starting dose for many adults is 5–10 mg once daily, adjusted by the physician based on lipid levels and response; 20 mg once daily is a higher strength typically used when lower doses are insufficient or in higher-risk patients, as determined by the doctor.
- Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split unless advised by your healthcare provider.
- The dose must be individualized by the prescribing physician according to baseline LDL levels, treatment goals, and patient response.
- In patients with kidney impairment, liver impairment, elderly patients, or those taking interacting medicines, lower starting doses and careful monitoring are usually required; follow your doctor’s instructions strictly.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
- Use as part of a comprehensive cholesterol-lowering plan including a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, regular physical activity, weight management, and smoking cessation.
- Do not stop taking Deconadal without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as cholesterol problems usually have no symptoms.
Clinical Benefits:
- Effectively lowers LDL ("bad") cholesterol and total cholesterol, helping to improve overall lipid profile.
- Helps reduce triglyceride levels and may modestly increase HDL ("good") cholesterol, supporting better cardiovascular health.
- Contributes to the prevention of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, and the need for revascularization procedures in high-risk patients.
- Supports long-term management of hyperlipidemia when combined with lifestyle modifications, helping to slow progression of atherosclerosis.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to rosuvastatin or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding; statins may harm the fetus or nursing infant. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease, heavy alcohol use, kidney impairment, hypothyroidism, or personal/family history of muscle disorders.
- Risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis increases with higher doses, advanced age, renal impairment, uncontrolled hypothyroidism, or concomitant use of certain drugs (e.g., some fibrates, niacin at lipid-lowering doses, certain antivirals, cyclosporine). Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking.
- Periodic monitoring of liver function tests and creatine kinase (CK) levels may be recommended by your physician.
- Stop the medicine and seek medical advice immediately if you develop unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, especially if accompanied by fever or malaise.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other medications, or if you have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, or muscle disorders.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, muscle pain, or weakness.
- Less common side effects can include itching, rash, joint pain, or elevation of liver enzymes in blood tests.
- Serious but rare side effects include myopathy, rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown), and severe liver problems. Symptoms may include severe muscle pain, dark-colored urine, unusual tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or severe abdominal pain.
- Allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe rash) require immediate medical attention.
- If you experience any persistent, bothersome, or severe side effects, stop taking the medication and contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
