About the product

Doxycost 200 Mg 10 Tablets

Description:

Doxycost 200 mg 10 tablets is a prescription systemic antibiotic medicine containing doxycycline, a broad-spectrum tetracycline-class antibiotic. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, skin, urinary and genital tract, and other body systems, and may also be used for malaria prophylaxis in specific situations as prescribed by a physician. Doxycost works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, stopping the growth and multiplication of susceptible bacteria and helping the body clear the infection. This product is intended for adult and adolescent patients as directed by a healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted infections including syphilis, lymphogranuloma venereum, and gonorrhea in penicillin-allergic individuals (as directed by a specialist).
  • Treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease and other genital/urinogenital tract infections.
  • Treatment of typhus fever and other rickettsial infections as prescribed.
  • Management of eye infection trachoma caused by susceptible organisms.
  • Treatment of acne vulgaris, especially inflammatory and persistent acne, as part of systemic acne therapy.
  • Treatment of certain types of infectious diarrhea caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Adjunct treatment of various bacterial infections where doxycycline is indicated according to physician judgment.
  • Prophylaxis of malaria in specific regions and situations, only under medical supervision.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Doxycycline (as doxycycline or doxycycline hyclate) – 200 mg per tablet.
  • Excipients: Other inactive ingredients (tableting aids, fillers, stabilizers) are present but specific excipient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not self-medicate or change the dose without medical advice.
  • Adults and adolescents: Typical total daily dose of doxycycline ranges from 100 mg to 200 mg per day depending on the type and severity of infection. A 200 mg tablet may be given as a single daily dose or divided, according to physician instructions.
  • For acute infections, a higher initial dose (loading dose) may be prescribed on the first day, followed by a lower maintenance dose; follow your doctor’s specific regimen.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water (at least 200 ml) while sitting or standing to reduce the risk of irritation or ulceration of the esophagus.
  • It is usually recommended to take doxycycline with food or a light meal if stomach upset occurs, but avoid taking it at the same time with milk, dairy products, or antacids containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, or iron, as these can reduce absorption.
  • Take the doses at evenly spaced intervals and at the same time each day for best effect.
  • Continue the full course of therapy even if symptoms improve early, unless your doctor instructs you to stop, to prevent relapse and antibiotic resistance.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • For malaria prophylaxis and special indications, dosing schedule and duration are determined strictly by a physician based on travel destination and patient factors.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, helping to control mixed and systemic infections.
  • Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30s ribosomal subunit, stopping bacterial growth and aiding the immune system in clearing infection.
  • Effective in treating respiratory, genital, skin, and eye infections, offering versatile coverage for multiple clinical conditions.
  • Useful as part of systemic therapy for moderate to severe acne, reducing inflammatory lesions and preventing new breakouts.
  • Can be used for malaria prophylaxis in specific endemic areas when recommended, contributing to travel-related infection prevention.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to doxycycline, other tetracyclines, or any component of the formulation.
  • Do not use in children under 8 years of age unless no alternative is available and the benefit outweighs the risk, as tetracyclines may cause permanent tooth discoloration and affect bone growth.
  • Use is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially the second and third trimesters, due to risk to fetal bone and teeth development. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
  • Doxycycline passes into breast milk; breastfeeding women should use only under strict medical supervision or consider alternative feeding.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment or those taking other hepatotoxic drugs, as doxycycline is metabolized and eliminated partly by the liver.
  • May cause photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight). Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and use broad-spectrum sunscreen and protective clothing during treatment.
  • Do not take simultaneously with antacids, iron supplements, bismuth preparations, or products containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum, as they may reduce absorption. Separate administration by at least 2–3 hours.
  • Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If superinfection or persistent diarrhea occurs, contact your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, kidney disease, esophageal disorders, history of intracranial hypertension, or chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney impairment, autoimmune disease, or severe gastrointestinal disorders.
  • This product is a prescription antibiotic medicine and must be used only under medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and indigestion.
  • Headache, dizziness, or fatigue may occur in some patients.
  • Photosensitivity reactions (sunburn-like reactions, skin redness, or rash on sun-exposed areas) may occur; protect skin from sunlight.
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing are possible; seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • Rare but serious side effects include severe skin reactions, liver dysfunction, intracranial hypertension (severe headache, blurred vision), or severe, persistent diarrhea which may indicate Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis. Stop the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if these appear.
  • If any side effect is severe, persistent, or you notice any unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider promptly.
