About the product

Empacoza 10 Mg 30 Tablets

Description:

Empacoza 10 mg 30 tablets is a prescription oral antidiabetic medicine containing empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It is used as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan, together with diet and exercise, to help lower high blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Empacoza can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines and also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis and is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Indications:

  • Management of blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
  • Can be used as monotherapy in patients who cannot tolerate metformin or when metformin is contraindicated.
  • Can be used in combination with other antidiabetic agents (such as metformin, insulin, DPP-4 inhibitors, or sulfonylureas) when additional glycemic control is needed.
  • Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
  • Helps improve glycemic control by increasing urinary glucose excretion and lowering fasting and postprandial blood glucose.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Empagliflozin – 10 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Other excipients (tablet core and coating) are present but specific excipient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual starting dose for adults with type 2 diabetes: 10 mg empagliflozin once daily, taken as one tablet.
  • The tablet can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day to support adherence.
  • Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your blood sugar control, kidney function, and concomitant medications. Do not change your dose without medical advice.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the film-coated tablet unless advised by your doctor.
  • Continue to follow your prescribed diabetic diet, exercise plan, and regular blood glucose monitoring while taking Empacoza.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Use with caution and under close medical supervision in patients with impaired kidney function; do not use in severe kidney impairment or in patients on dialysis.
  • Always follow your physician’s instructions and the patient leaflet provided with the medicine.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps lower elevated blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes by promoting urinary glucose excretion.
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
  • May support modest weight reduction and decrease in blood pressure in many patients as a result of its mechanism of action (increased glucose and osmotic diuresis), when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Provides once-daily oral dosing, improving convenience and supporting long-term treatment adherence in diabetes care.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Do not use Empacoza if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to empagliflozin or any of the other ingredients in the product.
  • Not for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
  • Do not use in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in blood or urine), whether acute or chronic.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems or are on dialysis.
  • Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy.
  • Should not be used during pregnancy or breast-feeding; consult your doctor for safer alternatives if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.
  • Use with caution in elderly patients, patients with low blood pressure, those taking diuretics, or those with conditions that may lead to volume depletion (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea).
  • May increase the risk of genital mycotic infections and urinary tract infections; maintain good personal hygiene and seek medical advice if symptoms occur.
  • Rare but serious cases of ketoacidosis have been reported in patients with type 2 diabetes taking SGLT2 inhibitors; seek immediate medical attention if you experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, excessive tiredness, or difficulty breathing.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, kidney disease, recurrent urinary tract infections, low blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or are taking diuretics, insulin, or other antidiabetic medicines.
  • May cause changes in kidney function tests; regular monitoring of renal function is recommended.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without a doctor’s supervision; this is a prescription-only medicine and must be used under medical guidance.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include increased urination, thirst, genital yeast infections (such as vulvovaginal candidiasis in women and balanitis in men), and urinary tract infections.
  • Other possible side effects include low blood pressure (especially in patients on diuretics or with volume depletion), dizziness, and increased blood lipids in some patients.
  • When used with insulin or insulin secretagogues (such as sulfonylureas), there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar); dose adjustment of the concomitant medicine may be needed.
  • Serious but less common side effects may include ketoacidosis, severe urinary tract infections (such as pyelonephritis or urosepsis), and acute kidney injury. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, confusion, fever, flank pain, or decreased urine output.
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue may occur; stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help if signs of severe allergy appear.
  • This is not a complete list of side effects. Always read the patient leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any unusual symptoms.
