Entresto 100 Mg 28 Tablets
Description:
Entresto 100 mg 28 tablets is a prescription cardiovascular medicine used in the long-term management of chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. It contains the fixed-dose combination of sacubitril and valsartan, known as an angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI). Entresto is clinically proven to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adult patients with chronic heart failure (NYHA class II–IV). This product is intended for use under the supervision of a cardiologist or qualified healthcare professional and is not a vitamin or dietary supplement.
Indications:
- Chronic heart failure (CHF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in adults (NYHA class II–IV).
- Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure–related hospitalization in patients with symptomatic chronic heart failure.
- Management of symptoms associated with heart failure such as shortness of breath, fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance, and fluid retention, as part of a comprehensive heart failure treatment plan.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Sacubitril – 49 mg per film-coated tablet (as sacubitril/valsartan 100 mg strength).
- Valsartan – 51 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Each pack contains 28 film-coated tablets for oral use.
- Excipients: The full list of inactive ingredients (excipients, colorants, stabilizers) is not available in the provided information; please refer to the official patient leaflet or pack insert for complete details.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Entresto 100 mg (49 mg sacubitril / 51 mg valsartan) is commonly used as the recommended starting dose in many adult patients with chronic heart failure, taken by mouth twice daily (po bid), as directed by the treating physician.
- Target maintenance dose: After 2–4 weeks of treatment, and if tolerated, the dose is usually doubled to the target maintenance dose of Entresto 200 mg (97 mg sacubitril / 103 mg valsartan) taken twice daily, as per physician guidance.
- Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, but it is advisable to take it at the same times each day.
- Transition from ACE inhibitors: A washout period of at least 36 hours is required between stopping an ACE inhibitor and starting Entresto to reduce the risk of angioedema.
- Renal or hepatic impairment, elderly patients, or those with low blood pressure may require lower starting doses; dosing must always be individualized by the physician.
- Do not change your dose, stop, or restart Entresto without consulting your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction.
- Significantly lowers the likelihood of hospitalization due to worsening heart failure when used as part of guideline-directed medical therapy.
- Improves heart failure symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, and exercise intolerance in many patients over time.
- Supports better long-term management of chronic heart failure by combining neprilysin inhibition (sacubitril) with angiotensin II receptor blockade (valsartan) for enhanced neurohormonal modulation.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy, or hereditary/idiopathic angioedema.
- Contraindicated in concomitant use with ACE inhibitors (must allow at least 36 hours between ACE inhibitor and Entresto) and in patients taking aliskiren for diabetes.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to sacubitril, valsartan, or any component of the formulation.
- Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment, moderate to severe hepatic impairment, low blood pressure (hypotension), or electrolyte disturbances (especially high potassium levels).
- Monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and serum potassium regularly during treatment, especially after dose changes.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other heart or blood pressure medications, diuretics, potassium supplements, or have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration, or history of angioedema.
- Entresto should not be used during pregnancy; drugs acting on the renin–angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. If pregnancy is detected, discontinue Entresto and contact your doctor immediately.
- Not intended for self-medication or over-the-counter use; prescription and regular medical follow-up are required.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include low blood pressure (hypotension), dizziness, headache, fatigue, cough, and elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia).
- Other possible effects include kidney function changes, fainting, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea.
- Serious side effects: angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or fainting. These require immediate medical attention and emergency care.
- If you experience persistent dizziness, decreased urine output, irregular heartbeat, or any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor promptly.
