ESMOPUMP 40 MG 14TAB
Description:
ESMOPUMP 40 mg 14 tablets is a prescription proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medicine containing esomeprazole. It is used to reduce excessive gastric acid secretion and to treat acid-related disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and erosive oesophagitis. By selectively inhibiting the gastric proton pump (H+ / K+ ATPase) in the stomach’s parietal cells, ESMOPUMP 40 mg provides potent and long-lasting acid suppression, helping relieve heartburn, acid reflux, and promoting healing of ulcerated and inflamed mucosa.
Indications:
- Treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
- Management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric pain.
- Treatment and maintenance therapy of erosive oesophagitis.
- Prevention and treatment of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)–associated gastric and duodenal ulcers in at-risk patients.
- Conditions requiring reduction of gastric acid secretion as directed by a physician (e.g., Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory states – only under specialist supervision).
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Esomeprazole – 40 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients: The full list of inactive ingredients (excipients, colorants, preservatives) is not available in the provided data. Please refer to the package leaflet for complete composition.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Usual adult dose for GERD and erosive oesophagitis: 40 mg (one tablet) once daily, or as directed by your physician.
- For gastric or duodenal ulcers and NSAID-associated ulcers: dose and duration should be determined by the prescribing doctor, commonly 20–40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks, depending on the condition and response.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet, as it is film-coated for delayed release.
- Take preferably in the morning, with or without food, at the same time each day, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration. Long-term use should only be under medical supervision.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides potent and sustained reduction of gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the proton pump (H+ / K+ ATPase) in gastric parietal cells.
- Helps relieve symptoms of GERD such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and upper abdominal discomfort.
- Promotes healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers and erosive oesophagitis, supporting mucosal recovery.
- Reduces the risk of NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulceration in patients requiring long-term NSAID therapy.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment; dose adjustment and close medical supervision may be required.
- Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may be associated with increased risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and gastrointestinal infections (such as Clostridioides difficile). Periodic monitoring may be advisable in long-term therapy.
- Persistent or alarm symptoms such as significant weight loss, recurrent vomiting, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), hematemesis (vomiting blood), or melena (black stools) require prompt medical evaluation to rule out malignancy.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be based on a doctor’s assessment of benefits versus risks.
- Consult your doctor before use if you are taking other medications such as clopidogrel, warfarin, digoxin, certain antifungals, antivirals, or antiepileptics, as drug interactions may occur.
- Patients with osteoporosis, electrolyte disturbances, or those on diuretics should seek medical advice before prolonged use.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, or vomiting.
- Less common side effects can include dizziness, dry mouth, skin rash, pruritus, or edema.
- Serious but rare side effects may include severe allergic reactions (angioedema, anaphylaxis), severe skin reactions, liver function disturbances, or severe diarrhea due to Clostridioides difficile infection.
- Very long-term use may be associated with low magnesium levels, vitamin B12 deficiency, and increased fracture risk; seek medical advice if you experience muscle cramps, palpitations, seizures, or persistent fatigue.
- Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin rash, or signs of gastrointestinal bleeding (black stools, blood in vomit).
