About the product

Esmorap 40 Mg 14 Capsules

Description:

Esmorap 40 mg 14 capsules is a prescription oral medicine containing esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce excess stomach acid. It is commonly prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and other acid-related disorders. By selectively inhibiting the gastric proton pump in the stomach lining, Esmorap 40 mg helps relieve heartburn, acid reflux, and associated pain, while promoting healing of the esophagus and stomach. This product is intended for adult use under medical supervision and is manufactured by AUG Pharma.

Indications:

  • Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptoms such as persistent heartburn, acid regurgitation, and chest discomfort related to acid reflux.
  • Healing and maintenance treatment of erosive esophagitis (inflammation and damage of the esophagus caused by stomach acid).
  • Treatment of gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers).
  • Treatment of duodenal ulcers, often in combination with appropriate antibiotics when caused by Helicobacter pylori infection (as directed by a physician).
  • Prevention and treatment of ulcers associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), especially in patients at risk for gastric complications.
  • Management of conditions characterized by pathological hypersecretion of acid, such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome (under specialist supervision).
  • Relief of acid-related symptoms such as burning in the chest, sour taste in the mouth, epigastric pain, and discomfort after meals related to excess stomach acid.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Esomeprazole (as esomeprazole or esomeprazole salt) – 40 mg per capsule.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use Esmorap 40 mg exactly as prescribed by your physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration.
  • Typical adult dose for GERD and erosive esophagitis (as commonly prescribed): 40 mg once daily, usually for 4–8 weeks, or as directed by the doctor. Actual dose and duration must be determined by a healthcare professional.
  • For prevention or treatment of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers: dose and duration are individualized by the physician, commonly 20–40 mg once daily.
  • For Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory conditions: dosing is individualized and may require higher or divided doses under specialist supervision.
  • Administration: Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the capsule, as this may affect the modified-release properties.
  • It is usually taken before a meal (often before breakfast), or as advised by your doctor.
  • If you have difficulty swallowing capsules, ask your doctor or pharmacist for alternative administration methods (such as opening the capsule and sprinkling pellets on soft food, if permitted by local product instructions). Do not modify use without professional advice.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • Do not stop treatment abruptly without consulting your doctor, especially if you have been on long-term therapy.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides potent and sustained reduction of gastric acid secretion, helping to control intragastric acidity throughout the day and night.
  • Relieves symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, and epigastric pain, improving comfort and quality of life in patients with GERD and acid-related disorders.
  • Promotes healing of erosive esophagitis and peptic ulcers by creating a less acidic environment that supports mucosal repair.
  • Helps prevent recurrence of gastric and duodenal ulcers, particularly in patients requiring long-term NSAID therapy, thereby reducing the risk of serious gastrointestinal complications.
  • Supports management of severe acid hypersecretion conditions such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome when used under specialist care.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
  • Do not use without medical supervision if you experience alarm symptoms such as unintentional weight loss, repeated vomiting, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, or black/tarry stools; seek immediate medical evaluation.
  • Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may be associated with increased risk of bone fractures (hip, wrist, spine), vitamin B12 deficiency, magnesium deficiency (hypomagnesemia), and certain infections (such as Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea). Periodic monitoring may be required for long-term therapy.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary as determined by the physician.
  • Prolonged use may slightly increase the risk of gastric polyps; long-term treatment should be regularly reviewed by a healthcare professional.
  • Esomeprazole may interact with other medications (e.g., certain antiretrovirals, clopidogrel, warfarin, diazepam, phenytoin, digoxin, methotrexate). Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medicines and supplements you are taking.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Use during pregnancy or lactation should be based on a medical risk–benefit assessment.
  • Not recommended for use in children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatric specialist, as dosing and safety considerations differ by age and weight.
  • If symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment, or if new symptoms appear, seek medical advice promptly.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, severe kidney disease, osteoporosis, history of fractures, or electrolyte disturbances (such as low magnesium levels).
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, or vomiting. These are usually mild and transient.
  • Less common side effects can include dry mouth, dizziness, skin rash, itching, or sleep disturbances.
  • Serious but rare side effects may include severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing), severe skin reactions, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), severe diarrhea, or signs of low magnesium (muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, seizures). Seek immediate medical attention if any of these occur.
  • Long-term use may be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and increased fracture risk; your doctor may recommend monitoring if you are on prolonged therapy.
  • If you experience any unusual or persistent side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
