Etoricox-Hexal 90 Mg 30 Tablets
Description:
Etoricox-Hexal 90 mg is a prescription oral medicine containing etoricoxib, a selective COX-2 inhibitor (coxib) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic low back pain, acute pain, and gout. By selectively inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme, Etoricox-Hexal 90 mg helps reduce prostaglandin production responsible for pain, swelling, and stiffness, with less effect on COX-1 compared to traditional NSAIDs.
Indications:
- Treatment of osteoarthritis-related pain, stiffness, and joint inflammation.
- Management of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis symptoms, including joint pain, swelling, and reduced mobility.
- Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis and chronic low back pain to reduce spinal pain and stiffness.
- Short-term management of acute pain conditions, as prescribed by the physician.
- Treatment of acute gouty arthritis to relieve intense joint pain, redness, and inflammation.
- Symptomatic relief of inflammatory musculoskeletal pain where a selective COX-2 inhibitor is deemed appropriate by the doctor.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Etoricoxib – 90 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Other tablet excipients (such as fillers, binders, coating agents, and stabilizers) are present but specific ingredient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by a physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Typical adult dose for osteoarthritis: often 30–60 mg once daily; 90 mg may be used in certain indications such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or acute gout, according to doctor’s instructions. Exact dosing must be determined by the treating physician.
- Tablets are taken orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.
- For acute pain and acute gout, treatment duration is usually short-term and should not be prolonged beyond what your doctor recommends.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms, in line with your doctor’s advice.
- Regular medical follow-up may be required to monitor blood pressure, kidney function, liver function, and cardiovascular risk during long-term use.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides effective relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
- Helps reduce swelling, stiffness, and joint tenderness, improving mobility and daily function.
- Offers targeted COX-2 inhibition, which may reduce gastrointestinal irritation compared to some non-selective NSAIDs, while still requiring caution.
- Supports short-term control of acute pain and acute gout attacks, helping restore comfort and movement.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or any component of the product.
- Do not use in patients with active peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, severe liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, or severe heart failure.
- Contraindicated in patients with established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease (e.g., stroke), or uncontrolled hypertension, unless specifically assessed and approved by a specialist.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or in smokers, as COX-2 inhibitors may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease (ulcers, bleeding), kidney disease, or liver disease; regular monitoring may be required.
- May cause fluid retention and edema; use carefully in patients with heart failure, hypertension, or other conditions predisposed to fluid overload.
- Not recommended in pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, unless clearly advised by a doctor. Avoid use during breastfeeding unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk.
- May interact with other medications such as anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), antiplatelet agents, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, lithium, and certain other NSAIDs. Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking.
- Do not use concurrently with other NSAIDs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors, unless directed by a physician.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, kidney disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal ulcers, or bleeding disorders.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease beyond its approved medical indications.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration of therapy. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical advice.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, indigestion, heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, or peripheral edema (swelling of legs or ankles).
- Less common side effects can include increased blood pressure, palpitations, fluid retention, or mild changes in liver function tests.
- Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention) may include chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking (signs of heart attack or stroke), severe abdominal pain, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, severe skin reactions, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), or significant decrease in urine output.
