Farcotilium 10 Mg 24 Capsules
Description:
Farcotilium 10 mg 24 capsules is a prescription oral medicine containing domperidone, a dopamine receptor antagonist with antiemetic and prokinetic (gastric motility–enhancing) properties. It is used to relieve nausea and vomiting of various causes and to improve symptoms related to delayed gastric emptying and functional gastrointestinal disorders. By blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and acting peripherally on the gastrointestinal tract, Farcotilium helps control nausea, vomiting, bloating, and feelings of fullness, supporting better digestive comfort and faster gastric emptying. It is intended for use under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with gastrointestinal disorders (such as gastritis, dyspepsia, and functional dyspepsia).
- Management of nausea and vomiting associated with migraine attacks.
- Adjunct antiemetic therapy in patients receiving cytotoxic (chemotherapy) drugs, as prescribed by a physician.
- Symptomatic treatment of delayed gastric emptying of functional origin (gastroparesis-like symptoms), including early satiety, abdominal fullness, bloating, and upper abdominal discomfort.
- Prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting as a pre-anaesthetic or post-anaesthetic adjunct, according to medical advice.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Domperidone – 10 mg per capsule.
- Excipients: Other inactive ingredients (capsule fillers, stabilizers, and capsule shell components) are present but specific excipient names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as directed by a physician or healthcare professional. Dosage may vary based on age, body weight, indication, and clinical condition.
- Adults and adolescents (as per doctor’s recommendation): Commonly taken 1 capsule (10 mg) up to 3 times daily before meals. The exact dose and frequency must be confirmed by the prescribing doctor.
- Take capsules preferably 15–30 minutes before meals to maximize prokinetic and antiemetic effect.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a sufficient amount of water; do not crush or chew.
- Duration of treatment should generally be as short as possible and not exceed the period recommended by your doctor. Long-term or high-dose use should be avoided unless clearly indicated and closely monitored.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
- Not recommended for use in children without explicit pediatric medical supervision.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides effective relief from nausea and vomiting of various origins, including gastrointestinal disorders and migraine.
- Enhances gastric motility by increasing oesophageal peristalsis, oesophageal sphincter pressure, and gastric emptying, helping reduce bloating and fullness.
- Helps improve tolerance of oral medications and food intake by controlling emesis and related discomfort.
- Supports better postoperative recovery and chemotherapy tolerance when used as an antiemetic adjunct under medical supervision.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to domperidone or any of the product’s components.
- Contraindicated in patients with prolactin-releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma).
- Contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation where stimulation of gastric motility could be harmful.
- Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; dose adjustment or avoidance may be required. In severe hepatic impairment, domperidone is generally not recommended.
- Use with caution in patients with underlying cardiac disease, history of arrhythmias, or those taking medications that prolong the QT interval, as domperidone has been associated with QT prolongation and serious ventricular arrhythmias in some patients.
- Concomitant use with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., certain antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, and some antivirals) may increase domperidone levels and risk of cardiac side effects; such combinations should be avoided unless strictly supervised by a physician.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Domperidone should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed.
- Domperidone is excreted in breast milk in small amounts; breastfeeding women should use it only on medical advice, weighing benefits and potential risks.
- Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney disease, electrolyte disturbances (low potassium or magnesium), or any significant chronic illness.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dry mouth, headache, mild abdominal cramps, or diarrhea/constipation.
- Endocrine-related effects such as increased prolactin levels may occur, potentially leading to breast tenderness, galactorrhea (milk secretion), or menstrual irregularities in some patients.
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, difficulty breathing) are rare but require immediate medical attention and discontinuation of the drug.
- Serious but uncommon cardiac side effects, including QT interval prolongation, palpitations, syncope, or ventricular arrhythmias, may occur, especially at high doses or in predisposed individuals. Seek urgent medical care if you experience chest pain, severe dizziness, fainting, or irregular heartbeat.
- If any side effects are severe, persistent, or concerning, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
