Description:
Feldene 20 mg capsules is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing piroxicam, used for the relief of pain and inflammation in various musculoskeletal and joint disorders. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute musculoskeletal pain, and other inflammatory conditions. As an NSAID, Feldene works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, helping to reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness, and improving mobility and quality of life for patients with chronic or acute inflammatory disorders.
Indications:
- Rheumatoid arthritis: relief of joint pain, swelling, and stiffness associated with chronic inflammatory arthritis.
- Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease): management of pain and inflammation in weight-bearing and non–weight-bearing joints.
- Ankylosing spondylitis: reduction of spinal pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
- Acute musculoskeletal disorders: short-term treatment of pain and inflammation due to sprains, strains, tendonitis, and other soft tissue injuries.
- Acute gout: relief of acute pain and inflammation in gouty arthritis (as directed by a physician).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by your physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Typical adult dose (general guidance): 20 mg once daily, or as directed by the treating doctor, depending on the condition and patient response.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
- It may be taken with or after food to help reduce the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort.
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms.
- In elderly patients or those with certain medical conditions, the doctor may prescribe a lower dose and monitor more closely.

Warnings & Contraindications:

- Contraindicated in patients with a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Do not use in patients with active peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, or a history of recurrent peptic ulcers or GI bleeding.
- Use with extreme caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease (ulcer, bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease), cardiovascular disease (hypertension, heart failure, ischemic heart disease), renal impairment, or hepatic impairment.
- May increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, especially with prolonged use or in patients with existing cardiovascular risk factors.
- May cause serious gastrointestinal adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation, which can be fatal and may occur without warning.
- Can prolong bleeding time and affect platelet function; use cautiously in patients taking anticoagulants or with bleeding disorders.
- Drug interactions: may interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), antiplatelets, other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, cyclosporine, lithium, and hydantoins. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. NSAIDs are generally not recommended, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Not recommended for use in children unless specifically directed by a doctor.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medication, as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.
- Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances.

- Less common but serious side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding (black or bloody stools, vomiting blood), severe abdominal pain, severe skin reactions, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, chest pain, sudden weakness or numbness, vision or speech disturbances, or severe allergic reactions.
- May cause fluid retention, edema, increased blood pressure, or worsening of heart failure in susceptible patients.
- Rarely, liver or kidney function abnormalities may occur; signs include yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual fatigue, or changes in urine output.
- Stop the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of severe allergic reaction, chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden severe headache, or any signs of gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Report any persistent or bothersome side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.
