Flopadex 4 Mg 20 Capsules
Description:
Flopadex 4 mg 20 capsules is a prescription oral medication containing silodosin, a highly selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blocker. It is used to relieve urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate, in adult men. By relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, Flopadex improves urine flow, reduces urinary frequency and urgency, and helps decrease the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. This medicine is produced by Eva Pharma and is intended for health management under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men.
- Improves weak urine stream and difficulty starting urination due to enlarged prostate.
- Reduces urinary frequency, especially nocturia (frequent urination at night).
- Helps relieve urgency and the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
- May reduce episodes of interrupted or intermittent urine flow associated with BPH.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Silodosin – 4 mg per capsule (selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blocker).
- Excipients: Capsule contains inactive ingredients such as fillers, stabilizers, and capsule shell components (exact excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package leaflet for full details).
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Recommended dose: 1 capsule of Flopadex 4 mg once daily, or as directed by your physician.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
- It is usually taken with food to help reduce the risk of side effects such as dizziness; follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
- Take the dose at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels and optimal symptom control.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Use only in adult men diagnosed with BPH; not indicated for women or children.
- Duration of treatment is determined by your healthcare provider based on response and tolerability; do not stop treatment abruptly without medical advice.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides effective relief of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
- Improves urine flow rate by relaxing smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck.
- Reduces urinary frequency and urgency, helping improve daily comfort and quality of life.
- Decreases nocturia, allowing for better sleep and reduced nighttime bathroom visits.
- Helps reduce the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying and intermittent urine stream.
- Selective alpha-1A blockade focuses action on the prostate and lower urinary tract, potentially limiting cardiovascular effects compared to non-selective alpha-blockers.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- For use only in adult men with diagnosed benign prostatic hyperplasia; not for use in women, children, or adolescents.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to silodosin or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment or severe renal impairment (exact cut-off values should be confirmed with a physician and product leaflet).
- May cause a drop in blood pressure, especially when standing up (orthostatic hypotension); use with caution in patients with low blood pressure or those taking antihypertensive medications.
- Use with caution in patients with moderate renal or hepatic impairment; dose adjustment may be required as per physician’s recommendation.
- May cause dizziness or fainting, particularly at the start of therapy; avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Inform your ophthalmologist before cataract or glaucoma surgery, as silodosin and other alpha-blockers may be associated with intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS).
- Consult your doctor before use if you are taking other alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, PDE5 inhibitors for erectile dysfunction, or any medication that may affect blood pressure.
- Consult your doctor before use if you have a history of severe liver disease, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, or episodes of fainting.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent prostate cancer; BPH and prostate cancer can coexist, so appropriate evaluation and monitoring by a physician are essential.
- Consult your doctor before use if you are taking medications or have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, or are on blood pressure–lowering drugs.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, nasal congestion, and orthostatic hypotension (feeling lightheaded when standing up).
- Reproductive-related side effects such as retrograde ejaculation or decreased semen volume may occur; these are usually reversible upon discontinuation.
- Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal discomfort may be experienced in some patients.
- Less common but more serious side effects can include severe dizziness, fainting, or pronounced drop in blood pressure; seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
- Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing require urgent medical attention.
- This is not a complete list of side effects; always refer to the official patient information leaflet and consult your healthcare provider if you notice any unusual symptoms.
