About the product›

Granitryl 2 mg 5 f.c.tabs

Description:

Granitryl 2 mg 5 f.c.tabs is a prescription antiemetic medicine containing granisetron, a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Each film-coated tablet provides systemic control of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and radiation-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV) by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the gut and central nervous system. This product is intended for adult use under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Prevention of acute nausea and vomiting associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy.
  • Treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy.
  • Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy.
  • Management of serotonin-mediated nausea and vomiting where a 5-HT3 antagonist is indicated, as assessed by a physician.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Granisetron – 2 mg per film-coated tablet (selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist).
  • Excipients: Film-coating and tablet core excipients (such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and colorants) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package insert for full excipient details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by your physician and according to the chemotherapy or radiotherapy protocol.
  • Adults (typical regimen – may vary by protocol): The usual oral dose for prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is often 2 mg once daily, taken within 1 hour before the start of chemotherapy. Some regimens may divide the dose (for example, 1 mg twice daily). Your oncologist will determine the exact dose and schedule.
  • For radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, dosing is determined by the treating physician based on radiation type and schedule.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the film-coated tablets unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
  • Can generally be taken with or without food, but follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed daily dose.
  • If you miss a dose, contact your doctor for instructions. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Duration of use depends on the chemotherapy or radiotherapy course and medical assessment; do not stop the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps prevent and control chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, improving patient comfort and treatment tolerance.
  • Reduces radiotherapy-related nausea and vomiting by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the gut and brain.
  • Supports better adherence to cancer treatment protocols by minimizing distressing gastrointestinal side effects.
  • Selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonism offers targeted antiemetic action with no sedative effect, allowing patients to maintain daily activities where medically appropriate.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to granisetron or any of the excipients in the formulation.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiac disorders, including arrhythmias, prolonged QT interval, or those taking other medicines that may prolong QT interval.
  • Caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, as dose adjustment may be required; follow your doctor’s instructions.
  • May mask progressive ileus or gastric distension; monitor patients with recent abdominal surgery or signs of bowel obstruction.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Granisetron should be used during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs), antiarrhythmics, antipsychotics, and other serotonergic drugs, due to potential risk of serotonin syndrome or cardiac effects.
  • Not intended for self-medication; use only under medical supervision as part of a chemotherapy or radiotherapy regimen.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease outside its approved indications.
