About the product

Kast 10 Mg 10 Tablets

Description:

Kast 10 mg 10 tablets is a prescription oral medicine containing montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used in the long-term management and prevention of asthma and allergic respiratory conditions. It works by blocking leukotrienes, inflammatory substances in the lungs that cause bronchoconstriction, airway swelling, and mucus production. Kast 10 mg is typically used as maintenance therapy to help control chronic asthma, prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Long-term treatment and prophylaxis of chronic asthma in adults and children as prescribed by a doctor.
  • Prevention of exercise-induced bronchocronstriction (exercise-induced asthma) when used before physical activity, as directed by a physician.
  • Relief and prevention of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and runny nose) when montelukast is indicated for this use.
  • Adjunct therapy in patients with asthma who are not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids, according to physician guidance.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Montelukast sodium – 10 mg per film-coated tablet (equivalent to 10 mg montelukast).
  • Other excipients (tablet core and film-coating) are present but specific names and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual adult dose for asthma: 10 mg (one tablet) once daily, taken in the evening or as directed by your physician.
  • For exercise-induced bronchoconstriction: dose and timing (often at least 2 hours before exercise) must follow your doctor’s instructions; do not take extra doses without medical advice.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food.
  • Use regularly every day for chronic asthma control, even when you have no symptoms, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
  • Do not use Kast 10 mg to treat acute asthma attacks; always use your prescribed rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Always follow the dosing regimen, treatment duration, and adjustments as prescribed by your healthcare provider, especially in children, elderly patients, or those with liver impairment.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps prevent asthma attacks by reducing leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation.
  • Improves asthma control, reducing daytime and nighttime symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
  • Decreases the need for rescue bronchodilators when used as part of a comprehensive asthma management plan.
  • Provides protection against exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in patients for whom montelukast is indicated.
  • May improve quality of life in patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis by reducing respiratory symptoms when used as directed.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to montelukast or any component of the formulation.
  • Not for relief of acute asthma attacks; patients must have a fast-acting rescue inhaler available for sudden breathing difficulties.
  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; dose adjustment or close monitoring may be required as determined by a physician.
  • Neuropsychiatric events (including agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression, abnormal dreams, hallucinations, insomnia, irritability, restlessness, suicidal thoughts and behavior) have been reported with montelukast; discontinue and consult a doctor immediately if such symptoms occur.
  • Systemic eosinophilia and Churg–Strauss-like syndrome have been rarely reported; medical evaluation is required if vasculitic rash, worsening pulmonary symptoms, cardiac complications, or neuropathy appear.
  • Concomitant use with barbiturates such as phenobarbital or primidone may reduce plasma concentration of montelukast; your doctor may need to monitor response and adjust therapy.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy; use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
  • Consult your doctor before use if breastfeeding, as it is not known with certainty whether montelukast is excreted in human milk; a risk–benefit assessment is required.
  • Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including antiepileptics, rifampicin, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease or other chronic medical conditions.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision and prescription.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue.
  • Other possible reactions: upper respiratory tract infection symptoms, cough, sore throat, dizziness, rash, or mild skin reactions.
  • Neuropsychiatric side effects such as agitation, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, sleep disturbances, abnormal dreams, depression, or suicidal thoughts have been reported; seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • Allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, severe rash, or difficulty breathing) require urgent medical attention and discontinuation of the drug.
  • Report any unusual or persistent symptoms to your healthcare provider for evaluation and possible adjustment of therapy.
