About the product

Klacid 250 Mg 14 Tablets

Description:

Klacid 250 mg 14 tablets is a prescription macrolide antibiotic medicine containing clarithromycin. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, and certain ear and throat infections. Klacid works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, stopping the growth of susceptible bacteria and helping the body clear the infection. It is intended for use under medical supervision in adults and children as directed by a healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Tonsillitis and pharyngitis caused by susceptible bacteria
  • Community-acquired pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections
  • Acute and chronic bronchitis due to susceptible organisms
  • Otitis media (middle ear infection)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections (such as uncomplicated cellulitis, folliculitis, and erysipelas)
  • Adjunct treatment and prophylaxis of Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections in appropriate patients (as directed by a specialist)
  • Part of combination regimens for certain atypical and mycobacterial infections (e.g. nocardiosis) as prescribed by a doctor

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Clarithromycin – 250 mg per film-coated tablet
  • Excipients: film-coating and tablet core excipients (full qualitative and quantitative list of inactive ingredients is not available in the provided information; please refer to the official package leaflet for details)

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by your doctor. Do not self-medicate with antibiotics.
  • Typical adult dose for most infections: 250 mg twice daily (every 12 hours), with the dose and duration adjusted by the physician according to the type and severity of infection. In more severe infections, higher doses may be prescribed.
  • Pediatric dosing: based on body weight and infection type; must be determined by a pediatrician.
  • Tablets may be taken with or without food; taking with food can help reduce stomach discomfort in some patients.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically instructs otherwise.
  • Duration of treatment is usually 5–14 days depending on the infection and clinical response, or longer for certain mycobacterial infections, strictly as directed by the physician.
  • Take the medicine at evenly spaced intervals and try not to miss doses to maintain effective antibiotic levels in the body.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Complete the full course of therapy even if symptoms improve earlier, to reduce the risk of relapse and antibiotic resistance.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Effectively treats a wide range of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Provides reliable coverage against common pathogens including Haemophilus influenzae, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Chlamydia pneumoniae.
  • Helps resolve symptoms such as sore throat, cough, chest congestion, fever, and localized skin redness and pain associated with bacterial infections.
  • Useful in the management and prophylaxis of certain mycobacterial infections (e.g. MAC) in selected patients under specialist care.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin or azithromycin), or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with prior use of clarithromycin.
  • Use with caution in patients with existing liver disease or impaired liver function; liver function monitoring may be required.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary as directed by the doctor.
  • Clarithromycin may prolong the QT interval; use with caution in patients with known QT prolongation, history of ventricular arrhythmias, or those taking other QT-prolonging drugs.
  • Potential for significant drug interactions (e.g. with certain statins, anticoagulants, antiarrhythmics, antiepileptics, and other medicines metabolized by CYP3A4). Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Clarithromycin should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you are breastfeeding; clarithromycin passes into breast milk, and the benefit–risk should be assessed by the physician.
  • Discontinue treatment and seek medical advice if you develop severe or persistent diarrhea, as this may indicate antibiotic-associated colitis.
  • Antibiotics should not be used for viral infections such as common cold or influenza.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have heart disease, electrolyte disturbances (low potassium or magnesium), severe myasthenia gravis, or other significant medical conditions.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion, change in taste (metallic or bitter taste), and headache.
  • Less common side effects can include elevated liver enzymes, rash, itching, dizziness, insomnia, or oral thrush.
  • Serious but rare side effects may include severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), severe skin reactions, jaundice, severe or bloody diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, or severe abdominal pain.
  • Stop the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, severe skin reaction, chest pain, palpitations, fainting, or persistent severe diarrhea.
  • If any side effects persist, worsen, or you notice any other unusual symptoms, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
