About the product

Mellitofix 10Mg 30 Tab

Description:

Mellitofix 10 mg 30 film-coated tablets is a prescription oral antidiabetic medicine containing empagliflozin, an sglt2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2) inhibitor. It is used as part of a comprehensive diabetes care plan, together with diet and exercise, to help lower high blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Mellitofix 10 mg can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines and also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis and is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age.

Indications:

  • Management of blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
  • Can be used as monotherapy in patients intolerant to metformin or when metformin is contraindicated, or as add-on therapy with other antidiabetic agents (e.g. metformin, insulin, dpp-4 inhibitors, sulfonylureas) for improved glycemic control.
  • Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
  • Helps reduce fasting and postprandial (after-meal) blood glucose levels and overall hba1c.
  • Supports diabetes management in patients requiring additional glucose-lowering beyond lifestyle measures and first-line therapy.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Empagliflozin – 10 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Other tablet excipients: full excipient list and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package leaflet for complete details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Usual starting dose for adults with type 2 diabetes: 10 mg empagliflozin (one tablet) once daily, as prescribed by the physician.
  • Tablets can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day to support adherence.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water; do not crush or chew the film-coated tablet.
  • Your doctor may adjust the dose or combine Mellitofix with other antidiabetic medicines based on your blood sugar response, kidney function, and overall clinical status. Do not change your dose without medical advice.
  • Continue to follow a balanced diabetic diet, regular exercise plan, and any other lifestyle recommendations given by your healthcare provider.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Use in patients with kidney impairment requires careful assessment; do not use in severe kidney disease or in patients on dialysis.
  • Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps lower elevated blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes by increasing urinary glucose excretion via sglt2 inhibition in the kidneys.
  • Contributes to improved long-term glycemic control (reduction in hba1c), supporting better overall diabetes management.
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, as demonstrated in clinical studies of empagliflozin.
  • May support modest weight reduction and blood pressure lowering in some patients due to increased urinary glucose and sodium excretion (individual results may vary).
  • Once-daily oral tablet formulation enhances convenience and treatment adherence for long-term diabetes care.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Do not use Mellitofix 10 mg if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to empagliflozin or any of the excipients in the product.
  • Contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
  • Contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (dka) or a history of recurrent ketoacidosis; seek urgent medical care if you develop symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, confusion, or unusual fatigue.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems or are on dialysis. Your doctor will assess kidney function before and during treatment.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding; if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor for alternative options.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of frequent urinary tract infections, genital infections, low blood pressure, dehydration, or elderly patients, as the risk of volume depletion and infections may be increased.
  • May increase the risk of ketoacidosis even with moderately elevated blood glucose; inform your doctor immediately if you feel unwell or have symptoms suggestive of ketoacidosis.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other antidiabetic agents, diuretics, blood pressure medicines, or drugs that may affect kidney function, to avoid interactions and excessive blood sugar lowering (hypoglycemia).
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, cardiovascular disease, low blood pressure, recurrent infections, or any serious medical condition.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision; it must be used strictly under a doctor’s prescription.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, increased urination, genital infections (such as yeast infections), thirst, and mild dehydration. If these are severe or persistent, contact your doctor.
  • Less common side effects can include low blood pressure (especially in patients on diuretics or with dehydration), dizziness, or increased cholesterol levels. Stand up slowly from sitting or lying positions to reduce dizziness.
  • Serious but rare side effects may include ketoacidosis, severe urinary tract infections, or serious genital infections. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as severe pain, swelling, redness in the genital area, fever, or feeling very unwell.
  • When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may increase. Symptoms include sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion, or palpitations. Monitor your blood sugar regularly and follow your doctor’s instructions for dose adjustments.
  • This is not a complete list of side effects. For full safety information, consult the official patient leaflet and your healthcare provider.
