Mosapride 2.5Mg 10 Tab
Description:
Mosapride 2.5 mg 10 film-coated tablets is a prescription gastrointestinal prokinetic medicine containing mosapride, a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist and 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It is used to enhance gastrointestinal motility, improve esophageal and gastric emptying, and relieve symptoms related to delayed gastric emptying and functional dyspepsia. This product is intended for adults and is typically used under medical supervision for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other motility-related digestive disorders.
Indications:
- Adjunctive treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), especially when associated with delayed gastric emptying.
- Management of functional dyspepsia (indigestion) with symptoms such as early satiety, postprandial fullness, upper abdominal discomfort, and bloating due to impaired gastric motility.
- Relief of nausea and vomiting associated with reduced gastrointestinal motility, as directed by a physician.
- Improvement of esophageal peristalsis and lower esophageal sphincter tone to reduce reflux-related symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Mosapride citrate – 2.5 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients: film-coating and tablet core excipients (such as fillers, binders, and colorants) are present; detailed excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Refer to the package insert for full composition.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Dosage: The usual adult dose is determined by the prescribing physician. Common regimens for mosapride in general practice often involve multiple daily doses before meals; however, the exact dose and frequency for this 2.5 mg strength must follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not adjust the dose on your own.
- Administration: Swallow the film-coated tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises otherwise.
- Timing: Generally taken before meals to maximize its prokinetic effect on gastric emptying, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.
- Duration of use: Use for the period prescribed by your doctor. Do not discontinue treatment abruptly without medical advice, even if symptoms improve.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Special populations: Dose adjustments may be required in patients with liver impairment, severe illness, or in elderly patients. Use only under strict medical supervision in these cases.
Clinical Benefits:
- Enhances gastrointestinal motility by stimulating 5-HT4 receptors in the myenteric plexus, increasing acetylcholine release and promoting coordinated peristaltic movements.
- Improves esophageal peristalsis and increases lower esophageal sphincter tone, helping to reduce reflux episodes and associated heartburn.
- Accelerates gastric emptying and intestinal transit, which can relieve symptoms such as bloating, early satiety, and postprandial fullness in functional dyspepsia.
- Helps reduce nausea and discomfort related to delayed gastric emptying and motility disorders, supporting better digestive comfort and quality of life.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to mosapride or any of the tablet components.
- Contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, perforation, or severe mechanical stenosis where increased motility could be harmful.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias, prolonged QT interval, electrolyte disturbances, or those taking other medicines that may affect cardiac conduction.
- Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment; dose adjustment or alternative therapy may be required.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor after assessing potential benefits and risks. Safety data in pregnancy and lactation are limited.
- Drug interactions: Mosapride may interact with other medications that affect serotonin receptors, gastrointestinal motility, or cardiac rhythm. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration of therapy. Misuse may increase the risk of side effects, including serious cardiac events in susceptible individuals.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as liver disease, heart disease, electrolyte imbalance, or a history of gastrointestinal obstruction.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, or headache. These are usually mild and transient.
- Less common side effects can include dizziness, fatigue, or skin rash. If these occur and are persistent or bothersome, contact your doctor.
- Rare but serious side effects may include palpitations, chest pain, fainting, or signs of cardiac arrhythmia. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms.
- Allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing) require urgent medical care.
- If you notice any unusual or severe symptoms after taking mosapride, stop use and consult your healthcare provider promptly.
