About the product

Norflex 100 mg tablets

Description:

Norflex 100 mg tablets are a prescription oral muscle relaxant medicine containing orphenadrine, a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant with anticholinergic properties. It is used to relieve acute painful musculoskeletal conditions associated with muscle spasm, stiffness, and limited mobility. Norflex helps reduce involuntary muscle contractions by acting on the central nervous system, thereby improving comfort and facilitating movement and physiotherapy in conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and muscle strain. This product is intended for adult use under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Relief of acute painful musculoskeletal conditions associated with muscle spasm (e.g., low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain).
  • Adjunctive treatment in muscle strain, sprain, and soft-tissue injuries causing muscle spasm and restricted movement.
  • Relief of muscle spasm associated with tension headaches or cervical spondylosis, as directed by a physician.
  • Supportive therapy to facilitate physiotherapy and rehabilitation where muscle relaxation is required.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Orphenadrine citrate (or equivalent orphenadrine) – 100 mg per tablet.
  • Excipients: tablet core and coating excipients (such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and colorants) in available information.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Adults: The usual recommended dose is 100 mg (1 tablet) two times daily, or as prescribed by the physician. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
  • Norflex 100 mg tablets may be taken with or without food. Taking it with food may help reduce the risk of stomach upset in sensitive individuals.
  • Use for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. Prolonged use should only be under close medical supervision.
  • In elderly patients or those with liver or kidney impairment, the doctor may prescribe a lower dose or adjust the dosing interval.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • Do not use in children unless specifically directed by a pediatric specialist, as safety and efficacy data are limited.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective relief from painful skeletal muscle spasm associated with acute musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Helps reduce stiffness and improves range of motion, making daily activities more comfortable.
  • Acts centrally on cerebral motor centers to relax muscles, supporting faster recovery when combined with rest and physiotherapy.
  • May decrease the need for higher doses of painkillers by targeting the muscle spasm component of pain.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to orphenadrine or any of the tablet components.
  • Contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, urinary retention, obstruction of the bladder neck, prostatic hypertrophy with urinary difficulty, pyloric or duodenal obstruction, or myasthenia gravis due to anticholinergic effects.
  • Use with extreme caution in elderly patients, and in those with cardiovascular disease, arrhythmias, liver or kidney impairment, or a history of drug abuse.
  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or confusion. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Avoid concurrent use with other anticholinergic drugs, strong sedatives, alcohol, or central nervous system depressants unless advised by your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
  • Consult your doctor before use if breastfeeding, as it is not known whether orphenadrine passes into breast milk; a risk–benefit assessment is required.
  • Use with caution in patients with tachycardia, heart failure, or coronary artery disease, as anticholinergic effects may worsen these conditions.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, urinary retention, enlarged prostate, or gastrointestinal obstruction.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, constipation, and urinary retention due to anticholinergic action.
  • Other possible effects include headache, nervousness, confusion (especially in the elderly), palpitations, or increased heart rate.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention) may include severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing), severe confusion or hallucinations, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or difficulty urinating.
  • If you experience persistent or bothersome side effects, or any unusual symptoms, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
