Ondalenz 4 Mg
Description:
Ondalenz 4 mg 5 orodispersible films is a prescription antiemetic medicine containing ondansetron, a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It is designed to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and postoperative recovery. The orodispersible film formulation dissolves quickly on the tongue without the need for water, offering convenient and rapid relief for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or are actively nauseated.
Indications:
- Prevention of acute nausea and vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy.
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy.
- Treatment and prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) following surgery and anesthesia.
- Symptomatic relief of severe nausea and vomiting where a 5-HT3 antagonist is considered appropriate, as directed by a physician.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Ondansetron – 4 mg per orodispersible film.
- Other excipients: full excipient list and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for complete details.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by your physician and according to the specific chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgical protocol.
- General adult dosing in chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV): Typical adult doses are 8 mg or higher per day depending on regimen; exact dosing schedule must be determined by the treating oncologist. The 4 mg film may be used as part of a divided-dose regimen.
- Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV): Dosing and timing (pre- or post-surgery) should be determined by the anesthesiologist or surgeon. The 4 mg strength is commonly used in PONV protocols.
- Place one Ondalenz 4 mg orodispersible film on the tongue and allow it to dissolve completely. Swallow the dissolved contents with saliva. No water is required.
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole; allow it to disperse in the mouth.
- Can be taken with or without food, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
- Do not exceed the total daily dose prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- If a dose is missed and you are still at risk of nausea and vomiting, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.
- Use in children, elderly patients, and those with liver impairment requires dose adjustment and strict medical supervision.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps prevent and control nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, improving treatment tolerability.
- Reduces postoperative nausea and vomiting, supporting faster and more comfortable recovery after surgery.
- Selective 5-HT3 receptor blockade provides targeted antiemetic action at vagal nerve terminals and the chemoreceptor trigger zone.
- Orodispersible film formulation offers convenient, water-free administration, ideal for patients with swallowing difficulties or active nausea.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ondansetron or any component of the formulation.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of QT prolongation, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, or those taking other medicines that prolong the QT interval.
- Use with caution in patients with electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia); correct these before treatment if possible.
- Patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment may require reduced total daily doses; use only under close medical supervision.
- May mask progressive ileus or gastric distension; monitor postoperative patients carefully.
