Optiguard Eye Drops
Description:
Optiguard 3 mg/ml Eye Drops 15 ml by Pharco is a sterile ophthalmic lubricant solution containing hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. It is classified as an eye medication used to relieve symptoms of dry eye and ocular surface irritation. By forming a protective, moisturizing film over the eye, Optiguard helps restore tear film stability, reduce friction, and protect the corneal surface in conditions associated with reduced tear production or increased tear evaporation.
Indications:
- Relief of dry eye symptoms such as burning, stinging, grittiness, and foreign body sensation due to reduced tear flow.
- Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (chronic dry eye disease) associated with autoimmune or other ocular surface disorders.
- Recurrent corneal erosions to help lubricate and protect the corneal surface.
- Decreased corneal sensitivity where additional lubrication is required to prevent damage.
- Exposure keratitis and neuroparalytic keratitis as a protective lubricant to reduce corneal drying.
- Lubrication for artificial eyes (ocular prostheses) to improve comfort and reduce friction.
- General eye dryness and irritation caused by environmental factors such as wind, air conditioning, smoke, or prolonged screen use.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose – 3 mg/ml (0.3%)
- Other excipients: The full list of inactive ingredients (e.g., buffers, preservatives, stabilizers) is not available in the provided information. Please refer to the product package insert for complete composition.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Recommended dose for adults: Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) as needed, usually 3–4 times daily or as directed by your ophthalmologist.
- Wash hands thoroughly before use.
- Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the eye or eyelid with the dropper tip.
- Close the eye gently for 1–2 minutes and avoid blinking excessively to allow even distribution of the drops.
- If using with other ophthalmic medications (such as antibiotic or anti-inflammatory eye drops), leave at least 5–10 minutes between products. Use Optiguard last unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
- Suitable for adult use; pediatric use should be under medical supervision only.
- Do not use while wearing contact lenses unless specifically advised by your eye care professional. If allowed, remove lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
- For ophthalmic use only. Do not ingest or inject.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides long-lasting lubrication to the ocular surface, helping to relieve dryness, burning, and irritation.
- Forms a protective film over the cornea, reducing friction from blinking and environmental exposure.
- Supports healing and comfort in conditions such as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, recurrent corneal erosions, and exposure keratitis.
- Helps stabilize the tear film, improving visual comfort during prolonged screen use, reading, or driving.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Do not use Optiguard Eye Drops if you are allergic or hypersensitive to hydroxypropyl methylcellulose or any of the other components of the formulation.
- For external ophthalmic use only. Do not inject or swallow.
- If you experience persistent eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness, or irritation that worsens or lasts more than 72 hours, discontinue use and consult an ophthalmologist.
- Do not use if the solution changes color, becomes cloudy, or contains particles.
- Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye or eyelids, to avoid contamination.
- Use with caution in patients with severe eye disease or after eye surgery; follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are using other prescription eye medications.
- Consult your doctor before use if you have serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, eye infections, or recent eye trauma or surgery.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease outside its approved ophthalmic indications.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common, usually mild and transient: temporary blurred vision immediately after instillation, mild burning or stinging, slight eye discomfort, or increased tearing.
- Less common: eye redness, itching, or eyelid swelling, which may indicate irritation or allergy.
- Serious reactions are rare but may include severe eye pain, marked redness, sudden vision changes, or signs of infection (discharge, swelling). Stop use and seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
Storage Instructions:
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Once opened, use within the period specified in the package insert and discard any remaining solution after that time to avoid contamination.
