About the product

Oxaleptal 600 Mg 30 Tablets

Description:

Oxaleptal 600 mg is a prescription anti-epileptic medicine containing oxcarbazepine, formulated as film-coated tablets. It is used to control and manage partial (focal) seizures, with or without secondary generalization, in adults and children as directed by a neurologist. Oxaleptal helps stabilize overactive nerve cells in the brain, reducing the frequency and intensity of epileptic seizures and supporting long-term seizure control.

Indications:

  • Treatment of partial (focal) seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults.
  • Adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in patients who are not adequately controlled with other anti-epileptic drugs (as prescribed by a physician).
  • May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other anticonvulsants according to medical advice.
  • Helps reduce seizure frequency, severity, and associated neurological symptoms such as loss of awareness, involuntary movements, or brief confusion.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Oxcarbazepine – 600 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Excipients: film-coating and tablet core ingredients (full excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package leaflet).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Oxaleptal 600 mg must be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor or neurologist. Do not change the dose or stop the medicine without medical advice.
  • Tablets are usually taken orally once or twice daily, with or without food, as directed by the physician.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor advises otherwise.
  • The starting dose and titration schedule depend on age, weight, clinical condition, and whether it is used alone or with other anti-epileptic medicines.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
  • Do not abruptly discontinue Oxaleptal; sudden withdrawal may increase seizure frequency. Dose reduction must be gradual under medical supervision.
  • Regular follow-up, blood tests, and dose adjustments may be required to optimize seizure control and minimize side effects.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective control of partial (focal) seizures by stabilizing neuronal activity in the brain.
  • Helps reduce the frequency and severity of epileptic episodes, supporting better daily functioning and quality of life.
  • Acts as a mood-stabilizing anticonvulsant in some patients, which may help improve overall neurological stability (as assessed by the treating physician).
  • Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other anti-epileptic drugs, offering flexibility in individualized epilepsy management plans.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Use only under medical supervision. Oxaleptal is a prescription anti-epileptic medicine and is not for self-medication.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to oxcarbazepine, carbamazepine, or any component of the formulation.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment, liver disease, or a history of severe skin reactions to antiepileptic drugs. Dose adjustment may be required.
  • Oxcarbazepine may cause hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood). Regular monitoring of serum sodium is recommended, especially in elderly patients or those taking diuretics.
  • May cause dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, or coordination problems. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Concomitant use with phenytoin or phenobarbital can increase their blood levels (phenytoin by up to about 40% and phenobarbital by about 15%). Dose adjustments of these drugs may be necessary under medical supervision.
  • Oxcarbazepine can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal oral contraceptives, especially those containing ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. Use an additional non-hormonal contraceptive method and consult your gynecologist.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Anti-epileptic drugs may carry risks to the fetus, but uncontrolled seizures also pose serious risks; treatment decisions must be individualized.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including other anti-epileptics, antidepressants, anticoagulants, and herbal products, to avoid interactions.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision. This medicine is specifically for the management of epilepsy as prescribed.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, double vision, blurred vision, and problems with coordination or balance.
  • Other possible effects: tremor, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, rash, or mild allergic reactions.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): severe skin reactions (such as Stevens–Johnson syndrome), widespread rash with blistering or peeling, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, severe fatigue, confusion, seizures worsening, or signs of low sodium (nausea, headache, confusion, seizures).
  • If you experience suicidal thoughts, severe mood changes, or unusual behavioral changes, contact your doctor immediately.
