About the product

Pystinon Tablets

Description:

Pystinon 60 mg sugar coated tablets are a prescription oral medicine containing pyridostigmine bromide, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor used primarily in the management of myasthenia gravis. By improving neuromuscular transmission, Pystinon helps increase muscle strength and reduce fatigue in patients with this chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder. It is classified as a systemic medicine for neurological and neuromuscular conditions and should be used strictly under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Treatment of myasthenia gravis (generalized or ocular) by improving muscle strength and endurance.
  • Management of symptoms such as muscle weakness, rapid fatigability, difficulty chewing or swallowing, drooping eyelids (ptosis), and double vision (diplopia) associated with myasthenia gravis.
  • May be used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for myasthenia gravis as directed by a neurologist or specialist.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Pyridostigmine bromide – 60 mg per tablet.
  • Other tablet excipients (including sugar coating and standard tablet bases) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert for full excipient list.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by your physician, preferably a neurologist experienced in treating myasthenia gravis.
  • Typical adult dosing for myasthenia gravis is individualized; the dose, frequency, and timing are adjusted according to the patient’s response and severity of symptoms. Common regimens may involve divided doses throughout the day, but exact dosing must be determined by the doctor.
  • Tablets are taken orally with a glass of water. They may be taken with or without food; taking with food can help reduce gastrointestinal side effects in some patients.
  • Do not crush or chew sugar coated tablets unless your doctor advises otherwise.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Do not change the dose or stop taking Pystinon suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt changes may worsen myasthenic symptoms.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Improves neuromuscular transmission by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the availability and action duration of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction.
  • Helps increase skeletal muscle strength and reduce fatigue in patients with myasthenia gravis.
  • Contributes to better performance of daily activities such as walking, chewing, swallowing, speaking, and eye movement control.
  • Provides a longer duration of action compared to some other cholinesterase inhibitors (e.g., neostigmine), allowing more sustained symptom control when properly dosed.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to pyridostigmine bromide or any of the tablet excipients.
  • Use with extreme caution in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd), bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, recent myocardial infarction, hypotension, or other significant cardiovascular disease.
  • Use with caution in patients with gastrointestinal obstruction, urinary tract obstruction, peritonitis, peptic ulcer disease, epilepsy, or hyperthyroidism.
  • Overdosage may lead to cholinergic crisis (excessive cholinergic activity) which can mimic or worsen myasthenic symptoms and may be life-threatening. Immediate medical attention is required if severe muscle weakness, breathing difficulty, or excessive secretions occur.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. The physician will weigh potential benefits and risks.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other anticholinesterases, beta-blockers, anti-arrhythmics, corticosteroids, magnesium-containing products, or neuromuscular blocking agents, due to potential interactions.
  • Not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment. Must be used under medical supervision only.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, increased salivation, increased bronchial secretions, sweating, increased urination, and muscle cramps or twitching.
  • Cardiovascular effects such as bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypotension, or arrhythmias may occur, particularly in susceptible patients.
  • Signs of cholinergic excess (cholinergic crisis) include severe muscle weakness, difficulty breathing, excessive salivation, tearing, sweating, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constricted pupils. This is a medical emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing) are rare but serious; stop the medication and seek urgent medical care if they occur.
  • Report any unusual or persistent side effects to your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
