Sedokast 10 Mg 10 Tablets
Description:
Sedokast 10 mg 10 tablets is a prescription oral medicine containing montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for long-term control and prevention of asthma symptoms and allergic airway inflammation. It helps reduce bronchoconstriction, wheezing, and breathing difficulties by blocking the action of inflammatory leukotrienes in the lungs. Sedokast is typically used as a maintenance therapy alongside other asthma medications and is not intended for the relief of acute asthma attacks.
Indications:
- Long-term management and prophylaxis of chronic asthma in adults and adolescents as prescribed by a physician.
- Prevention of exercise-induced bronchocronstriction in patients with asthma, when recommended by a healthcare professional.
- Relief and prevention of symptoms associated with allergic airway inflammation such as wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
- Adjunct therapy in patients with asthma who are not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids (as directed by a doctor).
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Montelukast sodium – 10 mg per film-coated tablet (leukotriene (CysLT1) receptor antagonist).
- Other inactive ingredients (excipients) are present to form the tablet; detailed excipient list and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for full composition.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Usual adult and adolescent dose (15 years and above, as commonly prescribed for 10 mg tablets): one 10 mg tablet once daily, preferably in the evening, or exactly as directed by your physician. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can usually be taken with or without food, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
- Use regularly every day, even when you have no symptoms, to maintain control of asthma and prevent attacks.
- Do not use Sedokast 10 mg tablets to treat sudden asthma attacks. Always keep your fast-acting (rescue) inhaler available for acute symptoms.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Do not stop taking Sedokast or change the dose without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps control chronic asthma by reducing leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation.
- Decreases frequency and severity of asthma symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath when used regularly.
- May reduce the need for rescue bronchodilators and improve overall lung function as part of a comprehensive asthma management plan.
- Provides convenient once-daily oral dosing, supporting better adherence to long-term asthma therapy.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to montelukast or any of the tablet components.
- Not indicated for the treatment of acute asthma attacks or status asthmaticus. Always use a short-acting bronchodilator for sudden breathing problems.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) impairment; dose adjustment or close monitoring may be required as determined by a physician.
- Montelukast plasma concentration may be reduced when co-administered with enzyme-inducing drugs such as barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital) and primidone; your doctor may need to monitor response closely.
- Report any changes in mood or behavior, including agitation, anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts, to your doctor immediately, as neuropsychiatric events have been reported with montelukast.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Your physician will weigh the potential benefits and risks.
- Inform your healthcare provider about all other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose or change the dosing schedule without medical advice.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease beyond the approved medical indications. Use only under medical supervision.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, or fatigue.
- Less common side effects can include dizziness, rash, itching, flu-like symptoms, or increased liver enzymes (as detected by blood tests).
- Neuropsychiatric reactions such as agitation, irritability, sleep disturbances (including insomnia or vivid dreams), anxiety, depression, or rarely suicidal thoughts and behavior have been reported. Seek medical advice immediately if these occur.
- Serious allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe skin reactions) are rare but require urgent medical attention.
- If you experience persistent or severe side effects, or any symptom that worries you, stop using the product and consult your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
