Spasmorest 10 Mg Tablets
Description:
Spasmorest 10 mg tablets are an oral antispasmodic prescription medicine containing dicyclomine, used to relieve painful smooth muscle spasms of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts. By blocking muscarinic (cholinergic) receptors, Spasmorest helps relax intestinal and abdominal smooth muscles, reducing cramping, colicky pain, and discomfort commonly associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other spastic conditions. Manufactured by Misr, this product is intended for adult use under medical supervision to manage functional bowel disorders and related abdominal spasms.
Indications:
- Management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional bowel disorders associated with smooth muscle spasm.
- Relief of colicky abdominal pain due to gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasm.
- Adjunctive treatment in conditions with increased gastrointestinal motility and cramping, as directed by a physician.
- May be used in genitourinary tract spasm and related colicky pain, according to physician recommendation.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Dicyclomine hydrochloride – 10 mg per tablet.
- Other excipients: Full list of inactive ingredients is not available in the provided information; please refer to the package insert for complete details.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Adults (typical dosing for dicyclomine): 80 mg per day in 4 divided doses (i.e., 20 mg four times daily), taken 30–60 minutes before meals, as directed by a physician.
- Dose may be increased, if needed and tolerated, up to 160 mg per day in 4 divided doses after approximately 1 week, strictly under medical supervision.
- Spasmorest 10 mg tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise.
- Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Not recommended for children unless specifically prescribed by a pediatric specialist.
Clinical Benefits:
- Reduces intestinal smooth muscle spasm, helping to relieve cramping and colicky abdominal pain.
- Helps manage symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as abdominal discomfort, spasm, and pain.
- Decreases gastrointestinal propulsive motility, which can reduce urgency and frequency associated with spastic bowel conditions.
- Provides anticholinergic and direct smooth muscle relaxant effects on the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dicyclomine or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in patients with obstructive diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, severe ulcerative colitis, reflux esophagitis, intestinal atony, paralytic ileus, or toxic megacolon.
- Contraindicated in patients with obstructive uropathy, myasthenia gravis, uncontrolled glaucoma, or severe heart disease, unless specifically directed by a physician.
- Use with caution in elderly patients, those with liver or kidney impairment, autonomic neuropathy, or cardiovascular disease.

- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
- Breastfeeding is generally not recommended while taking dicyclomine unless advised by a doctor, as anticholinergics may pass into breast milk.
