Stellasil 5 Mg 30 Tablets
Description:
Stellasil 5 mg 30 tablets is a prescription antipsychotic medicine containing trifluoperazine, a phenothiazine derivative used in the management of schizophrenia, other psychotic disorders, and certain anxiety states. It acts on dopaminergic receptors in the brain to help control symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, severe agitation, and anxiety-related tension. Stellasil is intended for adult use under strict medical supervision and should be taken exactly as directed by a healthcare professional.
Indications:
- Management of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
- Treatment of acute and chronic psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and severe agitation.
- Short-term treatment of anxiety disorders when symptoms are severe, disabling, or cause significant distress and when other treatments are not suitable (as prescribed by a physician).
- Relief of depressive symptoms secondary to anxiety and agitation (as part of a comprehensive treatment plan and under medical supervision).
- Not indicated for behavioral complications in patients with mental retardation.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Trifluoperazine hydrochloride – 5 mg per tablet.
- Other excipients (tablet base, binders, fillers, colorants, and preservatives) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Please refer to the official package leaflet for full excipient list.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Use only as prescribed by a psychiatrist or qualified physician experienced in the use of antipsychotic medications.
- Typical adult dosage for psychotic disorders is individualized; the doctor will start with a low dose and adjust gradually based on response and tolerability. Do not change your dose without medical advice.
- For anxiety disorders, lower doses are usually prescribed for short-term use only. Long-term use for anxiety is generally not recommended unless specifically directed by a doctor.
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. They may be taken with or without food, but taking them at the same time each day is recommended.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
- Do not stop taking Stellasil suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation may worsen symptoms or cause withdrawal-like effects.
- Regular follow-up visits, clinical assessment, and sometimes laboratory monitoring (e.g., liver function, blood counts) may be required during treatment.
Clinical Benefits:
- Helps control core symptoms of schizophrenia, including hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances, improving overall mental stability.
- Reduces severe agitation, restlessness, and tension associated with psychotic and certain anxiety disorders.
- May improve mood and reduce depressive symptoms that are secondary to anxiety and agitation when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
- Supports better daily functioning, social interaction, and quality of life when used consistently under medical supervision.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Stellasil (trifluoperazine) is a potent antipsychotic and must only be used under medical supervision.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to trifluoperazine, other phenothiazines, or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in patients with severe central nervous system depression, coma, or significant blood dyscrasias (serious blood disorders).
- Use with extreme caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, liver impairment, kidney impairment, Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or respiratory insufficiency.
- May cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired judgment. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
- May increase the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (movement disorders), tardive dyskinesia, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare but life-threatening reaction). Seek urgent medical help if you develop high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, or rapid heartbeat.
- May prolong the QT interval and increase the risk of serious heart rhythm disturbances, especially in predisposed patients or when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs.
- Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects and should be avoided unless approved by your doctor.
- Use in elderly patients, particularly those with dementia-related psychosis, may be associated with increased risk of cerebrovascular events and mortality; use only if clearly indicated and under close supervision.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Trifluoperazine should be used during pregnancy or lactation only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk.
- Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking to avoid drug interactions (including other antipsychotics, antidepressants, antiarrhythmics, and CNS depressants).
- Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without appropriate medical evaluation and prescription.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, nausea, weight changes, and mild restlessness.
- Neurological side effects can include extrapyramidal symptoms such as muscle stiffness, tremor, rigidity, akathisia (inner restlessness), and dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions).
- Long-term use may be associated with tardive dyskinesia (involuntary, repetitive movements, especially of the face and tongue). This may be irreversible; report any abnormal movements to your doctor immediately.
- Serious but rare side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome (high fever, severe muscle rigidity, confusion, autonomic instability), severe allergic reactions, jaundice or liver dysfunction, blood disorders (unusual bruising, infections), and significant heart rhythm changes.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience chest pain, fainting, seizures, severe muscle stiffness, high fever, confusion, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
