About the product

Tavacin 750 Mg 5 Tablets

Description:

Tavacin 750 mg 5 tablets is a prescription systemic antibiotic medicine containing levofloxacin, a third-generation fluoroquinolone. It is used in adults to treat a wide range of moderate to severe bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and other body systems. Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, helping to eliminate the infection and relieve associated symptoms such as fever, pain, cough, and urinary discomfort. This product is intended for use under medical supervision only.

Indications:

  • Acute bacterial sinusitis (sinus infections) caused by susceptible organisms.
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and other lower respiratory tract infections.
  • Community-acquired pneumonia.
  • Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI), including pyelonephritis.
  • Traveler's diarrhoea caused by susceptible bacteria (when antibiotic therapy is indicated by a physician).
  • Skin and soft tissue infections (including cellulitis, wound infections) due to susceptible organisms.
  • Urethritis and certain other genitourinary infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Other infections as determined appropriate by the prescribing physician according to local guidelines and bacterial susceptibility.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Levofloxacin – 750 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Excipients (tablet core and coating) – exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Refer to the official package leaflet for the full excipient list.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Tavacin 750 mg is for oral use only and must be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Typical adult dose: 750 mg (one tablet) once daily. The exact dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function, and clinical response.
  • Duration of treatment is usually between 5–14 days, but may be shorter or longer as directed by the physician.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water; do not crush or chew.
  • Can be taken with or without food; taking with food may help reduce stomach discomfort.
  • Avoid taking Tavacin at the same time as antacids containing magnesium or aluminium, sucralfate, iron or zinc supplements, or multivitamins containing these minerals. If needed, take levofloxacin at least 2 hours before or after such products to avoid reduced absorption.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Complete the full course of therapy even if you feel better, to prevent relapse and antibiotic resistance.
  • Use in children and adolescents is generally not recommended unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria responsible for respiratory, urinary, gastrointestinal, skin, and soft tissue infections.
  • High oral bioavailability allows effective systemic treatment with once-daily dosing, supporting better adherence to therapy.
  • Rapid reduction of infection-related symptoms such as fever, cough, purulent sputum, painful urination, and local inflammation when used appropriately.
  • Penetrates well into lung tissue, urinary tract, and skin/soft tissues, making it suitable for multiple infection sites.
  • Helps prevent complications and progression of bacterial infections when used early and according to medical advice.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
  • Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, seizure disorders, or other conditions that predispose to seizures.
  • Use with caution in patients with known or suspected QT interval prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte disturbances (e.g. low potassium or magnesium), or those taking other QT-prolonging drugs.
  • Patients with kidney impairment may require dose adjustment; consult your doctor for appropriate dosing.
  • Fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin, have been associated with tendinitis and tendon rupture (especially Achilles tendon), peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects; discontinue immediately and contact a doctor if tendon pain, numbness, tingling, or severe neurological symptoms occur.
  • May cause dizziness, confusion, or visual disturbances; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Levofloxacin is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed.
  • Consult your doctor before use if breastfeeding; a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, heart disease, arrhythmias, diabetes, or a history of mental health disorders.
  • Avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use sunscreen, as levofloxacin may increase photosensitivity in some patients.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Always use systemic antibiotics responsibly to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, insomnia, and changes in taste.
  • Less common side effects can include rash, itching, photosensitivity reactions, increased liver enzymes, or changes in blood counts.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention) may include tendon pain or rupture, severe muscle or joint pain, peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling, burning sensations), severe allergic reactions (swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash), seizures, severe diarrhoea (possible Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea), irregular heartbeat, chest pain, or signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine).
  • If you experience any unusual or persistent symptoms while taking Tavacin 750 mg, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
