Tavoniflox 500 Mg 7 Tablets
Description:
Tavoniflox 500 mg 7 tablets is a prescription systemic antibiotic medicine containing levofloxacin, a third-generation fluoroquinolone. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and gastrointestinal system. Tavoniflox works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, helping to rapidly control infection, relieve symptoms such as fever and pain, and prevent complications when used under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Acute bacterial sinusitis (sinus infections) caused by susceptible organisms.
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and other lower respiratory tract infections.
- Community-acquired pneumonia and other bacterial pneumonia types sensitive to levofloxacin.
- Uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections (uti), including pyelonephritis, caused by susceptible bacteria.
- Traveler's diarrhoea due to susceptible bacterial pathogens.
- Skin and soft tissue infections, including cellulitis, abscesses, and wound infections caused by susceptible organisms.
- Urethritis and certain sexually transmitted infections caused by levofloxacin-sensitive bacteria.
- Other infections as determined and prescribed by a healthcare professional based on culture and sensitivity results.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Levofloxacin hemihydrate (equivalent to levofloxacin) – 500 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients: tablet core and film-coating excipients (such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, colorants, and coating agents). Exact excipient composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert.
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Tavoniflox 500 mg is for oral use only and must be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Typical adult dose: 500 mg once daily, depending on the type and severity of infection and kidney function. Some infections may require higher or lower doses or longer duration. The exact regimen must be determined by a physician.
- Duration of treatment usually ranges from 3 to 14 days, and may be longer for complicated infections, as directed by your doctor.
- Tablets may be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with a sufficient amount of water; do not crush or chew.
- Take the dose at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
- Do not skip doses and do not stop treatment early, even if you feel better, unless advised by your doctor. Incomplete courses may lead to treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
- In patients with kidney (renal) impairment, dosage adjustment is required; follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
- Avoid taking Tavoniflox simultaneously with antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, sucralfate, or supplements containing iron or zinc, as they may reduce absorption. If needed, separate doses by at least 2 hours before or after levofloxacin.
Clinical Benefits:
- Broad-spectrum antibacterial action against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria responsible for respiratory, urinary, gastrointestinal, and skin infections.
- Rapid inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase iv, leading to effective bacterial killing and faster symptom relief (fever, pain, discharge, cough).
- Once-daily dosing in many indications improves patient convenience and supports better treatment adherence.
- Effective systemic antibiotic option for complicated infections such as pneumonia and pyelonephritis when used appropriately under medical supervision.
- Helps prevent progression of infection and potential complications when taken for the full prescribed course.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to levofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated in children and adolescents who are still growing, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk and only under strict medical supervision.
- Use with extreme caution in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use or in those at increased risk of tendon rupture (e.g., elderly patients, patients on corticosteroids).
- May increase the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects (such as seizures, tremors, confusion, hallucinations). Discontinue immediately and contact your doctor if these occur.
- Use cautiously in patients with seizure disorders, epilepsy, or other conditions that lower the seizure threshold.
- May prolong the qt interval; use with caution in patients with known qt prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte disturbances (e.g., low potassium or magnesium), heart disease, or in combination with other qt-prolonging drugs.
- May cause blood sugar disturbances (hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia), especially in diabetic patients taking insulin or oral antidiabetics. Monitor blood glucose closely.
- May cause photosensitivity; avoid excessive sunlight or uv exposure and use protective clothing and sunscreen.
- Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney disease, liver disease, myasthenia gravis, heart rhythm disorders, or a history of mental health problems.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances, or other nervous system side effects.
- Alcohol intake should be limited or avoided as it may worsen certain side effects such as dizziness or confusion.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking other medications, or have medical conditions such as kidney impairment, epilepsy, heart disease, diabetes, or history of tendon disorders.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- This product is a prescription systemic antibiotic and must be used only under medical supervision. It is not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment.

- Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, insomnia, and changes in taste.
- Less common side effects can include rash, itching, photosensitivity reactions (sunburn-like reaction on exposure to sunlight), and mild increases in liver enzymes.
- Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention) may include tendon pain or rupture (especially Achilles tendon), severe muscle or joint pain, numbness or tingling (peripheral neuropathy), severe allergic reactions (swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, severe rash), seizures, severe diarrhoea (possible Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea), irregular heartbeat, chest pain, or significant mood or behavioral changes.
