Tresiba Flextouch 100 ml

Description:

Tresiba Flextouch 100 iu/ml is a long-acting basal insulin injection containing insulin degludec, supplied in a pre-filled FlexTouch pen for convenient once-daily dosing. It is a prescription diabetes medicine used to improve blood glucose control in adults, adolescents, and children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. As an ultra-long-acting insulin, Tresiba provides a stable and prolonged insulin effect of up to 42 hours, helping to maintain consistent fasting and between-meal blood sugar levels with reduced day-to-day variability. The FlexTouch pen is designed for accurate dosing and ease of use, making it suitable for home diabetes management under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Long-term treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents, and children (type 1 and type 2 diabetes) requiring basal insulin for blood glucose control.
  • Improvement of fasting and between-meal blood sugar levels as part of a basal or basal-bolus insulin regimen.
  • Use in combination with rapid-acting insulin for mealtime coverage in type 1 diabetes, as prescribed by a healthcare professional.
  • Use alone or in combination with oral antidiabetic medicines (such as metformin, DPP-4 inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors, or others) in type 2 diabetes, as directed by a doctor.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Insulin degludec – 100 units/ml (100 iu/ml) in pre-filled FlexTouch pen solution for injection.
  • Other excipients (such as glycerol, phenol, metacresol, zinc acetate, hydrochloric acid/sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, and water for injections) are typically present but the full excipient list and exact concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website. Refer to the official package leaflet for complete details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Tresiba Flextouch 100 iu/ml is for subcutaneous injection only. Do not administer intravenously or via insulin pump unless specifically instructed by a specialist.
  • Use once daily, preferably at the same time each day. In some cases, your doctor may allow flexibility in dosing time, but a consistent routine is recommended.
  • The dose is individualized by your doctor based on blood glucose monitoring, type of diabetes, previous insulin use, body weight, diet, and physical activity. Never change your dose without medical advice.
  • Injection sites: inject into the thigh, upper arm, or abdominal wall (stomach area). Rotate injection sites within the same region to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy (skin thickening or indentations).
  • Using the FlexTouch pen:
    • Check the label to ensure you are using Tresiba 100 iu/ml.
    • Attach a new sterile needle before each injection.
    • Perform a safety test (prime) according to the pen instructions to ensure insulin flow.
    • Dial the dose prescribed by your doctor using the dose selector.
    • Inject subcutaneously as instructed by your healthcare provider and keep the needle under the skin for several seconds before removing.
    • Dispose of needles safely in a sharps container. Do not share your pen or needles with anyone.
  • Can be used alone as basal insulin or in combination with mealtime insulin and/or oral antidiabetic medicines as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan.
  • If you miss a dose, follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Monitor your blood sugar and seek medical advice if unsure.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides ultra-long, stable basal insulin coverage (up to 42 hours) to help maintain consistent blood glucose control throughout the day and night.
  • Reduces fasting blood sugar and supports better HbA1c (long-term glucose control) when used as prescribed.
  • Offers lower day-to-day variability in insulin action compared to some other basal insulins, which may help reduce the risk of hypoglycemia, especially nocturnal hypoglycemia, when used appropriately.
  • Once-daily dosing and FlexTouch pen design improve convenience and adherence to insulin therapy, supporting long-term diabetes management.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • For use only under the supervision of a physician experienced in diabetes management. Prescription medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to insulin degludec or any of the excipients in the formulation. Signs of severe allergy include rash, swelling of face/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing – seek emergency medical help immediately.
  • Do not use during episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Treat the low blood sugar first according to your doctor’s instructions.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment; dose adjustments and close monitoring may be required.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Insulin requirements may change during pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Alcohol, certain medicines (such as beta-blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics, oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, etc.) can affect blood glucose and insulin needs. Inform your doctor of all medications and supplements you are taking.
  • Do not share your Tresiba FlexTouch pen or needles with others, even if the needle is changed, to avoid transmission of infections.
  • Driving and using machines: hypoglycemia can impair concentration and reaction time. Take precautions and monitor your blood sugar regularly.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without medical supervision; it is a treatment for diabetes prescribed by a healthcare professional.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Very common: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – symptoms may include sweating, shakiness, fast heartbeat, hunger, headache, confusion, irritability, or blurred vision. Severe hypoglycemia can cause loss of consciousness or seizures and requires urgent medical attention.
  • Common: Local injection site reactions such as redness, pain, itching, swelling, or bruising. These are usually mild and transient.
  • Possible: Lipodystrophy or skin thickening/indentation at injection sites if the same area is used repeatedly. Rotate injection sites to reduce this risk.
  • Uncommon but serious: Generalized allergic reactions, severe rash, breathing difficulties, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using the product and seek immediate medical help.
  • Fluid retention and swelling (edema) may occur, especially when improving poorly controlled diabetes or when used with certain other medications.
  • If you experience unusual or severe side effects, or if your blood sugar remains too high or too low despite correct use, contact your doctor promptly.
