Zocozet 10/20 Mg 14 Tablets
Description:
Zocozet 10/20 mg 14 tablets is a prescription lipid-lowering medicine that combines ezetimibe and simvastatin in a single film-coated tablet. It is used as part of a comprehensive cholesterol management plan, including diet and lifestyle changes, to help reduce high levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. By targeting both intestinal cholesterol absorption and hepatic cholesterol synthesis, Zocozet provides dual-action control of hyperlipidemia and supports cardiovascular risk reduction in appropriate patients.
Indications:
- Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial or non-familial) as an adjunct to diet when response to statin monotherapy or ezetimibe alone is inadequate.
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to diet and other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such treatments are not available.
- Reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and non-HDL cholesterol levels.
- May be used in patients requiring additional LDL cholesterol lowering when already on a statin, as decided by the treating physician.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Ezetimibe – 10 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Simvastatin – 20 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Other excipients: film-coating and tablet core excipients (full excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package leaflet).
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Usual adult dose: 1 tablet of Zocozet 10/20 mg once daily, or as directed by the prescribing physician based on individual lipid profile and treatment goals.
- Administration: Take orally with a glass of water. It may be taken with or without food, preferably in the evening, as many statins are commonly administered at night. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
- Use as an adjunct to a standard cholesterol-lowering diet: Patients should follow a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet before starting therapy and continue it during treatment.
- If taking bile acid sequestrants (e.g., cholestyramine), Zocozet should generally be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after the sequestrant (follow physician guidance).
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor.
- If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Clinical Benefits:
- Provides dual mechanism of action by inhibiting intestinal cholesterol absorption (ezetimibe) and hepatic cholesterol synthesis (simvastatin) for more effective LDL reduction.
- Helps significantly lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and non-HDL cholesterol, supporting better lipid control.
- Assists in reducing cardiovascular risk when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
- Convenient fixed-dose combination in a single tablet, which may improve adherence compared to taking separate ezetimibe and statin tablets.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ezetimibe, simvastatin, or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential risk to the fetus or infant. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of liver impairment, heavy alcohol use, or risk factors for myopathy/rhabdomyolysis (e.g., advanced age, renal impairment, uncontrolled hypothyroidism).
- Simvastatin may increase the risk of muscle-related side effects, especially at higher doses or when used with interacting medicines (e.g., certain antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors). Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
- Ezetimibe concentrations may be increased when co-administered with cyclosporine; careful monitoring is required. Concomitant use with fibrates should generally be avoided due to increased risk of gallstones and muscle toxicity.
- Periodic liver function tests and, when indicated, creatine kinase (CK) monitoring may be recommended by your doctor.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other lipid-lowering drugs, cyclosporine, anticoagulants, or have liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, or a history of muscle problems.
- Not intended for use in children unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, fatigue, or mild elevation of liver enzymes.
- Muscle-related symptoms such as muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps can occur. Rarely, serious muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis) may develop, which can lead to kidney problems.
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing) are rare but require immediate medical attention.
- Stop the medication and seek urgent medical help if you experience severe muscle pain, dark-colored urine, marked fatigue, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe abdominal pain.
- This is not a complete list of side effects. For full safety information, consult the official patient leaflet and your healthcare provider.
