About the product

Zyrtec 20 Tablets

Description:

Zyrtec 20 Tablets is a prescription-free oral antihistamine medicine containing cetirizine, a second-generation h1 receptor antagonist. It is used for the relief of allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and skin allergies including urticaria (hives) and pruritic skin disorders. As a non-sedating antihistamine in most patients, Zyrtec helps control seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria while allowing you to maintain daily activities with minimal drowsiness compared to first-generation antihistamines.

Indications:

  • Relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including sneezing, rhinorrhoea (runny nose), nasal itching, and postnasal discharge.
  • Relief of ocular symptoms associated with allergy such as itchy, red, or watery eyes.
  • Treatment and relief of chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives) and other pruritic skin disorders of allergic origin.
  • Adjunctive treatment in allergic conditions such as dermatitis with itching.
  • Symptomatic relief of allergy-related angioedema (as advised by a physician).
  • Helps manage common allergy-related coughs and colds where histamine-mediated symptoms are predominant.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Cetirizine dihydrochloride – 10 mg per tablet (second-generation h1 antihistamine).
  • Other tablet excipients: Full excipient list and exact concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the package leaflet for complete details.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Adults and children 12 years and older: Typically 10 mg (1 tablet) once daily, or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Children 6–11 years: Dose is usually 5–10 mg daily depending on body weight and medical advice; follow pediatric dosing on the package or as prescribed by a physician.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; can be taken with or without food.
  • Take at the same time each day for consistent allergy control.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
  • Patients with kidney or liver impairment: A lower dose or less frequent dosing may be required; consult your physician before use.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides effective 24-hour relief from common allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, and watery eyes.
  • Reduces and controls skin manifestations of allergy including hives, redness, and itching in chronic urticaria and pruritic skin disorders.
  • Second-generation antihistamine with minimal penetration into the brain, leading to a lower incidence of sedation and impaired alertness compared with first-generation antihistamines in most users.
  • Helps improve quality of life in patients with seasonal and perennial allergies by reducing symptom burden and improving sleep and daytime functioning.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Do not use Zyrtec if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, any piperazine derivatives, or any of the other ingredients in the product.
  • Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary. Consult your doctor before use.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver disease or combined liver and kidney impairment; medical supervision is advised.
  • May cause drowsiness in some individuals; avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Avoid alcohol or other central nervous system depressants while taking cetirizine, as they may increase the risk of drowsiness or impaired performance.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Cetirizine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
  • If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before use, as cetirizine can pass into breast milk.
  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease beyond its approved indications for allergy management.

  • Less common side effects can include agitation, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, or skin rash.
  • Serious allergic reactions to cetirizine are rare but may include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
  • If you experience persistent or bothersome side effects, or any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
