Angiosartan 40 Mg 28 Tablets
Description:
Angiosartan 40 mg 28 tablets is a prescription antihypertensive medicine containing olmesartan, an angiotensin ii receptor blocker (arb). It is used to lower high blood pressure and help protect the heart and blood vessels by relaxing blood vessels and reducing peripheral resistance. Angiosartan 40 mg is suitable for adult patients as part of long-term blood pressure control and cardiovascular risk reduction, usually within a comprehensive treatment plan including lifestyle changes and, if needed, other medications.
Indications:
- Treatment of essential (primary) hypertension in adults.
- Helps reduce elevated blood pressure and maintain controlled blood pressure over time.
- May be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents such as diuretics or calcium channel blockers, as directed by the physician.
- Helps lower the risk of complications associated with uncontrolled high blood pressure, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage, when used regularly as prescribed.
Active Ingredients / Key Components:
- Olmesartan medoxomil – 40 mg per film-coated tablet.
- Excipients: film-coating and tablet core excipients (exact excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the package leaflet for full details).
Dosage & Administration / How to Use:
- Adults: The usual starting dose of olmesartan is 20 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased by the physician up to 40 mg once daily. Angiosartan 40 mg tablets are typically used when a 40 mg daily dose is prescribed.
- Recommended dose: 40 mg (one tablet) once daily, or as directed by your doctor.
- Take the tablet at the same time each day, with or without food, swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
- Do not change your dose or stop taking the medicine without consulting your healthcare provider, even if you feel well, as hypertension often has no symptoms.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
- Use in children and adolescents: Use and dosing in patients under 18 years should be strictly according to a pediatric specialist’s advice (information not fully available; refer to doctor).
Clinical Benefits:
- Effectively lowers high blood pressure by selectively blocking angiotensin ii type 1 (at1) receptors, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance.
- Helps decrease the workload on the heart and supports long-term cardiovascular protection when used consistently.
- Reduces the effects of angiotensin ii such as vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, sympathetic stimulation, and salt and water retention, contributing to better blood pressure control.
- Once-daily dosing provides 24-hour blood pressure control, improving treatment adherence and convenience for patients.
Warnings & Contraindications:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan medoxomil or any component of the formulation.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk of serious fetal harm (drugs acting on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus).
- Not recommended during breastfeeding unless clearly needed and only under medical supervision.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, renal artery stenosis, severe heart failure, or liver impairment; dose adjustment and close monitoring may be required.
- May cause symptomatic hypotension, especially in patients who are volume-depleted (e.g., on high-dose diuretics, low-salt diet, vomiting, or diarrhea). Initiate therapy carefully and monitor blood pressure.
- Monitor kidney function and serum potassium periodically, particularly in patients with kidney disease, diabetes, or those taking potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or other drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
- Do not use concomitantly with aliskiren in patients with diabetes and avoid dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin system (e.g., arb plus ace inhibitor) unless specifically advised by a specialist.
- Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, planning pregnancy, taking other medications, or if you have medical conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, or electrolyte imbalance.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or abdominal pain.
- Less common side effects can include hypotension (low blood pressure), increased blood urea or creatinine, hyperkalemia (high potassium), and rash.
- Rare but serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), severe hypotension, kidney function deterioration, or syncope (fainting).
- Stop the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of severe allergic reaction, severe dizziness or fainting, decreased urine output, or unusual swelling.
- This is not a complete list of side effects. Always review the patient information leaflet and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any unexpected symptoms.
