About the product

Apexidone 3 Mg Tablets

Description:

Apexidone 3 mg tablets are a prescription antipsychotic medicine containing risperidone, a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic used for the treatment and control of various psychotic and mood disorders. It works mainly by modulating dopamine and serotonin (5ht2) receptors in the brain, helping to reduce symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, aggression, and mood instability. Apexidone 3 mg tablets are film-coated for oral use and are intended for adults and adolescents as directed by a psychiatrist or healthcare professional.

Indications:

  • Treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders characterized by hallucinations, delusions, disorganized behavior, and thought disturbances.
  • Management of acute and chronic psychoses where an atypical antipsychotic is indicated.
  • May be used as part of the treatment plan for bipolar disorder (manic or mixed episodes) as an antimanic agent, according to physician guidance.
  • Control of aggression, severe behavioral disturbances, or agitation associated with psychotic or mood disorders, as prescribed by a specialist.
  • Symptomatic relief of positive (e.g., hallucinations, delusions) and negative (e.g., social withdrawal, lack of motivation) symptoms of schizophrenia.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Risperidone – 3 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Excipients: Film-coating and tablet core excipients (such as fillers, binders, disintegrants, and colorants) are present but the exact composition and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Use only as prescribed by your doctor or psychiatrist. Do not change the dose or stop the medication without medical advice.
  • Typical adult dosing for schizophrenia or psychotic disorders is individualized and may start at a lower dose with gradual adjustment. The 3 mg strength is usually used as part of a titrated regimen once the effective dose has been established by the physician.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the film-coated tablet unless your doctor specifically instructs otherwise.
  • Can be taken with or without food; try to take it at the same time each day to maintain stable blood levels.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Long-term treatment should be regularly reviewed by your doctor to assess effectiveness, side effects, and the need for dose adjustment.
  • Elderly patients, patients with liver or kidney impairment, and adolescents usually require lower starting doses and careful titration as directed by a healthcare professional.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps control core symptoms of schizophrenia such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors.
  • Improves overall functioning, behavior, and social interaction in patients with psychotic disorders when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Provides antimanic and mood-stabilizing effects in certain bipolar disorder patients, helping reduce agitation, irritability, and aggression.
  • Second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic profile, which is generally associated with a lower risk of certain movement disorders compared with many first-generation antipsychotics, though monitoring is still essential.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to risperidone or any of the excipients in the formulation.
  • Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease (e.g., heart failure, history of stroke, arrhythmias), as risperidone may cause orthostatic hypotension and other cardiovascular effects.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, Parkinson’s disease, or conditions that may lower the seizure threshold.
  • May increase blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides; patients with diabetes or at risk of metabolic syndrome should be monitored regularly.
  • May cause weight gain and hormonal changes (including elevated prolactin); regular monitoring by your doctor is recommended.
  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Concomitant use with levodopa or other dopamine agonists may reduce their efficacy. Chronic administration with carbamazepine may decrease risperidone efficacy. Chronic administration with clozapine may enhance risperidone efficacy; dose adjustments and monitoring may be required.
  • Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects; avoid or limit alcohol intake.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney impairment, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, epilepsy, or Parkinson’s disease.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without a doctor’s supervision; this is a prescription-only medicine and must be used under medical guidance.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, insomnia, anxiety, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort.
  • Neurological side effects can include extrapyramidal symptoms (such as tremor, rigidity, restlessness, or muscle stiffness), akathisia, and, rarely, tardive dyskinesia. Inform your doctor if you notice any abnormal movements.
  • Metabolic effects may include increased blood sugar, increased cholesterol or triglycerides, and hormonal changes such as elevated prolactin (which may cause breast tenderness, menstrual changes, or galactorrhea).
  • Serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing), severe dizziness or fainting, seizures, signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (high fever, muscle rigidity, confusion, sweating, rapid heartbeat), or signs of stroke (sudden weakness, trouble speaking, vision changes), especially in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or unusual symptoms, chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe muscle stiffness, high fever, or signs of an allergic reaction.
