About the product

Arcoxia 120 Mg 7 Tablets

Description:

Arcoxia 120 mg 7 tablets is a prescription anti-inflammatory pain relief medicine containing etoricoxib, a selective cox-2 inhibitor (coxib). It is used to relieve pain and inflammation in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, chronic low back pain, and certain types of acute pain. By selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (cox-2) with approximately 106-fold selectivity over cox-1, Arcoxia helps reduce prostaglandin production responsible for pain, swelling, and stiffness while aiming to minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with non-selective NSAIDs. It is intended for adult use under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis to reduce joint pain, swelling, and stiffness.
  • Management of osteoarthritis symptoms, including joint pain and reduced mobility.
  • Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis to relieve spinal pain and inflammation.
  • Management of psoriatic arthritis-related pain and inflammation.
  • Short-term treatment of acute gouty arthritis to reduce intense joint pain and swelling.
  • Relief of chronic low back pain associated with inflammatory and degenerative conditions.
  • Short-term management of moderate acute pain as prescribed by a physician.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Etoricoxib – 120 mg per film-coated tablet.
  • Excipients: Film-coating and tablet core excipients (full excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; please refer to the official package insert).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Arcoxia 120 mg is for oral use only and should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablets.
  • It may be taken with or without food; taking it at the same time each day is recommended. Taking with food may reduce onset speed but can improve gastrointestinal tolerance.
  • Typical adult dose for acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for a short-term period (usually up to 8 days) as directed by the physician.
  • For chronic conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic low back pain), lower strengths (e.g., 30 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg) are usually used; 120 mg is generally reserved for acute episodes and must follow doctor’s instructions.
  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms.
  • Not recommended for children and adolescents under 16 years of age.
  • Patients with hepatic or renal impairment, elderly patients, or those with cardiovascular risk require strict medical supervision and possible dose adjustment or avoidance.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed daily dose. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double the dose.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Provides potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect by selectively inhibiting cox-2, helping to relieve pain and swelling in joints and soft tissues.
  • Improves mobility and functional capacity in patients with arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis by reducing stiffness and discomfort.
  • Offers strong short-term pain control in acute gout attacks and other acute painful conditions, improving quality of life and sleep.
  • Selective cox-2 inhibition aims to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding compared with traditional non-selective NSAIDs, when used as directed.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, severe hepatic impairment, severe renal impairment, or inflammatory bowel disease unless specifically advised by a specialist.
  • Contraindicated in patients with established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease (e.g., stroke), or uncontrolled hypertension due to increased cardiovascular risk with cox-2 inhibitors.
  • Use with caution in patients with history of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, edema, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, or in smokers.
  • May cause fluid retention and edema; monitor patients with heart failure or hypertension closely.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment; regular monitoring of liver and renal function may be required.
  • May increase risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events (bleeding, ulceration, perforation), especially in elderly patients or those using other NSAIDs, aspirin, corticosteroids, or anticoagulants.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly needed and prescribed by a physician; etoricoxib may affect fetal circulation and pregnancy outcomes.
  • May interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), antiplatelet agents, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, lithium, and some other medications; inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.
  • Patients with dehydration (e.g., due to vomiting, diarrhea, or diuretic use) are at higher risk of renal side effects; correct dehydration before starting treatment.
  • Do not use in combination with other NSAIDs, including selective cox-2 inhibitors, unless specifically advised by a physician.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, liver disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders, or bleeding tendencies.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease outside its approved medical indications.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, peripheral edema (swelling of legs or ankles), and increased blood pressure.
  • Less common side effects can include palpitations, flushing, fluid retention, muscle cramps, insomnia, and mild skin reactions such as rash or itching.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention) include chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking (signs of heart attack or stroke), severe abdominal pain, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing), severe skin reactions, or marked decrease in urine output.
  • Long-term use or use at high doses may increase the risk of cardiovascular events and serious gastrointestinal complications; regular medical follow-up is essential.
