About the product

Atorstat 80 Mg Tablets

Description:

Atorstat 80 mg tablets is a prescription lipid-lowering medication containing atorvastatin, a member of the statin class. It is used to reduce high cholesterol and triglyceride levels and to lower the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. Atorstat 80 mg is typically prescribed for adults who require high-intensity statin therapy for primary or secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and other atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. This medicine works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby decreasing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (ldl-c) and improving overall lipid profile.

Indications:

  • Primary prevention of coronary heart disease (chd) in adults with multiple cardiovascular risk factors (such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, or family history of early heart disease) to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction (mi), stroke, angina, and revascularization procedures.
  • Secondary prevention in adults with established coronary heart disease (e.g., previous myocardial infarction, history of angina, coronary revascularization) to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events including mi, stroke, and the need for revascularization.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in patients with acute coronary syndrome (acs) as part of comprehensive cardiovascular risk management.
  • Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (including heterozygous familial and non-familial) and mixed dyslipidemia as an adjunct to diet when response to diet and other non-pharmacological measures is inadequate.
  • Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., ldl apheresis) or when such treatments are not available.
  • Treatment of primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and/or hypertriglyceridemia to reduce total cholesterol, ldl-c, apolipoprotein b (apob), and triglycerides, and to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (hdl-c).

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Atorvastatin calcium (equivalent to atorvastatin) – 80 mg per tablet
  • Excipients: tablet core and coating excipients (specific excipient list and concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website; refer to the official package insert for full details).

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Atorstat 80 mg tablets is for oral use in adults only and must be taken exactly as prescribed by a physician.
  • Typical adult initial dose of atorvastatin therapy: 10 mg once daily, adjusted based on lipid profile and clinical response. The maximum recommended dose is 80 mg once daily. Atorstat 80 mg represents the maximum daily dose and is usually used in patients requiring high-intensity statin therapy.
  • Usual dosing: 1 tablet of Atorstat 80 mg once daily, with or without food, swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew unless advised by your doctor.
  • Dosing should be individualized according to baseline ldl-c levels, treatment goals, and patient response, in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
  • Lipid levels should be analyzed within 2–4 weeks after initiation or dose adjustment, and the dose may be adjusted accordingly by the healthcare provider.
  • Continue taking Atorstat 80 mg regularly, even if you feel well, as high cholesterol usually has no symptoms. Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
  • Use as an adjunct to a cholesterol-lowering diet: Patients should follow a standard low-cholesterol, low-fat diet before and during therapy.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Effectively lowers total cholesterol, ldl-c, apolipoprotein b, and triglycerides, while increasing hdl-c, helping to optimize the lipid profile.
  • Reduces the risk of major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and the need for coronary revascularization procedures in high-risk patients.
  • Provides high-intensity statin therapy suitable for patients with acute coronary syndrome or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require aggressive lipid lowering.
  • Helps slow the progression of atherosclerosis and supports long-term cardiovascular health when combined with lifestyle modifications such as diet, exercise, and smoking cessation.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the formulation.
  • Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception during treatment and discontinue atorvastatin if pregnancy occurs.
  • Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease, heavy alcohol use, renal impairment, hypothyroidism, or a personal/family history of hereditary muscle disorders.
  • Risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis: Inform your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, especially if accompanied by fever or malaise.
  • Periodic liver function tests are recommended before starting therapy and as clinically indicated thereafter. Discontinue if marked elevations in liver enzymes occur or if liver injury is suspected.
  • May interact with certain medications (e.g., strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, some antibiotics, antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, other lipid-lowering agents like fibrates or niacin). Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking.
  • Use with caution in patients with diabetes or at risk of diabetes, as statins may slightly increase blood glucose levels.
  • Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, muscle disorders, or history of stroke.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical supervision.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects:
  • Common side effects may include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, and mild muscle aches or joint pain.
  • Less common side effects can include elevated liver enzymes, fatigue, dizziness, rash, or sleep disturbances.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): severe muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (especially with fever or dark-colored urine), signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, severe fatigue, upper right abdominal pain), severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), or unexplained bleeding or bruising.
  • If any side effects are persistent, bothersome, or severe, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
