Description:

Eltroxin Lf 0.05 mg 100 Tablets is a prescription thyroid hormone replacement medicine containing levothyroxine sodium. It is used to treat and manage hypothyroidism and other thyroid hormone deficiency states by replacing or supplementing the natural thyroxine (T4) produced by the thyroid gland. By restoring normal thyroid hormone levels, Eltroxin helps regulate metabolism, energy production, growth, and many vital body functions. Indications:

• Treatment of hypothyroidism of any cause (primary, secondary, or tertiary), including autoimmune thyroiditis (chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis/Hashimoto’s disease).
• Management of goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), including diffuse or nodular goiter, particularly when associated with thyroid hormone deficiency.
• Adjunct therapy with antithyroid drugs in the management of certain forms of hyperthyroidism after achieving euthyroid state, as directed by a physician.
• Treatment and prevention of recurrence of goiter after surgical removal of the thyroid or after radioiodine therapy, when thyroid hormone replacement is required.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

• Eltroxin Lf is a prescription medicine; dosage must always be individualized and determined by your doctor based on age, body weight, clinical condition, and thyroid function test results (TSH, T4, T3).
• Usual adult starting doses for hypothyroidism are lower and gradually increased at intervals of 4–6 weeks according to laboratory tests and clinical response. Elderly patients and those with heart disease usually require lower starting doses.
• Take the tablets once daily, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30–60 minutes before breakfast, with a full glass of water.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew unless advised by your doctor. For patients who cannot swallow, the tablet may be dispersed in a small amount of water and taken immediately, if recommended by a healthcare professional.
• Take Eltroxin at the same time every day to maintain stable thyroid hormone levels.
• Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well. Thyroid hormone replacement is often long-term or lifelong.
• Certain foods and medicines (such as iron supplements, calcium supplements, antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, and some cholesterol-lowering agents like cholestyramine) can reduce absorption of levothyroxine. Take these at least 4 hours apart from Eltroxin, as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed tablet.
